Why don't people wash their hand after using the restroom

When i was in college i noticed that many guys on the floor would take a dump and they didn't wash their hands after completing nature's duty. Same thing at work..i see people just step right out after taking a dump without washing their hands as if nothing happened... My female friends were telling me the same thing at their workplace. They see women that don't wash their hands after changing those monthly devices or after emptying their bowels....
man, isn't that like the first thing people learn after potty training...wash your hands when you're done!!!

that's gross, i wash my hands, and if i saw someone not washing, that's pretty damn gross, and i try to stay away from that person... unless i know them, then i'll be like, man, that's sick, go wash ur hands!

No washy after poopy? That's a little nasty. After potty is another thing though. Depending on your cleanliness, the certain equipment that you are using should be cleaner than anything else in that bathroom, including the faucet knobs and the door. For women, they've got to wipe so it makes more sense to wash up after peepee. Everyone should wash after doodoo though. It makes more sense to shower every morning, don't touch a thing in a pulic restroom, especially the faucet! Personally I kick everything, the flush handle, the door, etc.

yuck, I always wash my hands and then I try my hardest not to touch anything while existing the bathroom because of the people who don't wash their hands

I try to use a paper towel to open the door, etc.

Reminds me of a joke I've heard...substitute your favorite characters & institutions.

A new Lt. ends up next to a Chief (CMSGT) at the urinals. They both finish their business and the Lt. stops to wash his hands but the chief just walks out the door. The Lt. accosts the chief out in the hall ... "You know, at the Academy, they taught us to always wash our hands after using the bathroom.". The Chief replies "Well, at basic, they taught us not to piss on our hands."

wow, no need to be obsessive over it. i don't think you are going to die if you touch the same door as someone who didn't wash their hands touched.

i dunno public bathroom's dont gross me out to the sense were i dont touch the faucets with my hands and the door with my hands..., i think you people might be paranoid bout that... your own hands probably have more germs on them then the facucet

EDIT
DOH!, I type too slow

An Andtecher and a Hardforumer walk into a restroom to p. After they are finished the Anandtecher heads straight for the door. They Hardforumer says "Hey, over at H they teach us to wash our hands after using the restroom". The Anandtecher says "Over at Anandtech they teach us to not p on our hands".
🙂 Old joke

yeah thats an alarming trend

I cant count the times I've walked in a washroom that smelled like a slaughterhouse and some guy walks from the stall right out the door without even looking at the sink. Not to mention the people who run water over their hands for like 2 seconds without using soap. Its like people don't care that they're obviously going to be eating with those same unwashed hands that they wiped their ass with.

First, most people dont urinate or deficate on thier own hands...
Second, at most public restrooms, the sink is dirtier than your crotch anyway when it comes to bacteria and the like.

so... I guess that's why people do that

They did a report on the news about this, they had scientists take bacteria samples from the door handles in public washrooms. The end result was that they found lots of trace elements from feces and urine. I try to always open the door with a paper towel these days.

i don't panic over it. I agree with ya...imagine all the things you touch in a day that others have also touched at some point, and chances are one of them didn't wash their hands after using the bathroom.

I turn the water on and off with a paper towel as well as use one to open the door.

I also saw a report on 20/20 where they found that there was more fecal matter on a McDonald's plastic food tray than there was on a toilet seat.

What don't kill you makes you stronger.
I don't get crap on my hands, either.

Actually, in my dorm we had sinks in our rooms and there was never soap in the bathroom, so rather than rinse my hands in the bathroom I just went back to my room and used the sink and soap.

If you bite you nails you might as well not wash your hands. Biting you nails will ingest more germs and bacteria than not washing your hands. You'll get more germs and bacteria handeling money(paper or coins), than not washing you hands after using the bathroom. Same way if you borrow someones phone(cell or landline).

Yes I wash my hands but it doesnt gross me out if others dont.

I agree. I don't know where your crotch has been, but mine is a lot cleaner then most Public restrooms and I don't piss or S__T on myself.

The money in your pocket has more germs than any of the above mentioned bathroom items.

Not likely. Unless you keep your money damp and in a plastic bag, it doesn't make a very good growth medium.
