You quoted an atheist. How provocative! LINK I could quote non-atheists and get opposite views. Your logic is circular and gets us nowhere.Originally posted by: Hardcore

and this is why the Jets will never win another superbowl.
Jehovah doesn't recognize the pope, y'know...
and that hat he wears... it's pagan in origin... didn't know that, didja?
it's a tribal phallic symbol, to denote prominence.

Are you one of those knit picking religious Zealots that believes Halloween is a Pagan holiday?

I disagree with all of this. Who does that stuff? I've never worshipped a jackolantern nor have I venerated any such creature.Originally posted by: rasholianmon
tell me that it's not...
let's look at the evidence.
- worship of faces carved in pumpkins in the form of ghosts, and goblins
- dispensation of treats in exchange or in place of tricks (magic)
- the veneration of the undead, ghosts, and goblins
- the use of masks and costumes is a tradition that originated for the purpose of protection not from the undead, but to identify with them
That's absurd, too.- the biblical Great Flood of Noah's day happened at that time of year (Nov. 1st), and all of the unbelievers (pagan and the like) were wiped out-- only Noah and his family, faithful to God's warnings, survived along with the animals in the ark. Halloween is actually in honor of those that died in the great flood, hoping that they come back from the dead on that eve.
you won't find that in your history syllabus-- but you can see that it's not a "holy day" in the least.

What do you know about me that you can comment on my "lack of education"? You are a presumptuous ass.Originally posted by: Hardcore
Well i guess it's because of your lack of education that you weren't able to properly understand that quote, so let me dumb it down a bit for you: Man has constantly redesigned God as they saw fit. The God you looked at for 'aid' isn't the same God your 'forebears' believed 1000 years ago... if they saw the God you believed in today, they would considered you heretics. How can God be omnipotent, if he's constantly changing according to people's whims?
And i find it sad that people attribute so much to God... it must be a bland life to live where you believe your abilities or lack of are the results of God, rather than self-proficiencies.

You might as well stop, no one is taking you seriously. Your witness is bad, just look at your quotes MrChad posted.Originally posted by: rasholianmon

ok, you're not even making sense right now. it's ok, I understand that you're just trying to be obnoxious...
This is probably the worst (and least educated) argument against theism I have ever read. God has never changed, only man's perception of Him, which is ever evolving.Originally posted by: Hardcore

you defend it, so yes, you do worship it....
have you ever researched the roots of Halloween? how about Christmas? New Year's? bet you haven't.
to call you sheep would be a compliment. you're more like a lemming.

Just like I berate someone who listens to bad music for having bad taste. I don't think you have a right to be an idiot. In my dictatorship (I'll be the dictator), ignorance is punishable, 100 LASHES! Bad taste is only 50 lashes. I'm being completely serious.

If someone chooses to have faith, that is their right and choice. If someone chooses not to have faith, same thing, their right, their choice. Your opinions as to whether or not people should or should not have faith is petty, childish, pathetic, and unnecessary. Quit trying to tell people what they should or should not believe, and quit being such a bigot.
I get the feeling that some of them do it to convince themselves that there is no God, and as such, they can do whatever it is they want to do without guilt or fear of consequence.Originally posted by: Attrox
Yup, it seems that this is the trend in ATOT. I always see this kind of thread and lots of ppl come out bashing and laughing at ppl for having religion. I don't know the reason for such hatred.
Frankly, nobody is going to put much stock in your personal illusions. I've hypnotised and been hypnotised before, so I know what kind of placebo effect one can introduce on the unwitting. Minds weak and strong can 'fall' for it, but in the end it is a crock.Originally posted by: Jero

What's truly sad is that all some people do is worry about death when by all accounts it is unavoidable. Oblivion will come for you, and it'll come for me. While you restrict enjoying your life unnecessarily with countless archaic rules, I'll live my life in my own way and will worry about death when it comes knocking.Originally posted by: ToeStub
True lonliness is facing oblivion with absolutely no hope.
You have a one-in-a-thousandth chance of having picked or been raised in that one true correct religion. You can't tell me you've explored the religions of the world and know absolutely that you won't feel a stronger connection to God in one of them than you might feel now - you've simply presuming quite arrogantly that you hit upon the right theology. So, would your God be merciful and allow into Heaven a Jew? A Muslim? A Hindu? Is He going to be pissed that I might call him Allah instead of God? It's far too ridiculous to state that a merciful God would shove good, honest people off to Hell merely for believing with some different slant.
If there truly is a merciful God, logically all he's gonna have is some minimum requirements for getting past the pearly gates. Never caused a fellow human grievious pain, or death...the big stuff. You really think "never fscked a person of the same gender" is going to make the list? It's a wee bit doubtful to anyone who thinks in greater terms than a highly-touted fiction novel.
Seriously...I'm shocked by the lack of respect given around here.
This thread was done for a flamewar and it got the better of me momentarily.
If you want to get into a theological discussion. I'm all for it.
My strongest points of dicussions is how God has affected me in life.
However, I downright refuse to get in a flaming discussion.
