Why do people speed?

I'll honestly never understand why people speed.

Lets take my future home/uni daily commute as an example. Is 7 miles @ 65mph and 23 miles @ 55mph
About 31 minutes, 30 seconds.

Now, if I were to do the entire thing at 75 (which is unreasonable on the 55mph stretch, but lets just say it weren't a PA highway)
24 minutes.

Honestly, what would I have done with those 7 minutes? Neffed.

Now if I'd done 75 on the 65mph stretch, and 65 on the 55 stretch (fairly reasonable)
About 27 minutes. That's a net savings of 4 minutes. That's not even enough time to nef.

I'm a pizza delivery guy - speeding is my life 😛 It makes the difference in your pizza being hot and fresh, or cold and old.

Well you're special. IMO, pizza dudes deserve lights and siren

i speed b/c i do not like to follow behind lots of cars or get stuck in a large group of cars that's breaking or slowing down

i like the fast lane b/c it usually moves at a steady pace

it is that rebel streak in people, they are more important, therefore they are above the law. they think they are better than everyone else

it is a "car-penis" thing, the person that goes the fastest/is in the "front", has the biggest "car-penis"

Because it's more fun to speed. Driving slow is boring.

And if your drive is hundreds of miles...it adds up.

Not that I advocate weaving in and out of traffic like a moron - that's just reckless. But if the weather's OK and traffic is light...zoom zoom 😀

/flame suit on

You're absolutely right.

How about all the assholes who like to come up to an interesection on the far right, even though there is no designated lane, and zoom around and get ahead of the people who are driving nice and civilized!?! some dipshit did that to me today and we ended up in the same parking garage at the same time, which gave me the oppurtunity to cut his ass off.

w00t!!!!!! 😀

Because driving slow sucks. There is nothing enjoyable about driving slow. Speeding on the other hand..... 😛

Because people enjoy neffing (or perhaps TV watching, or whatever they like) more than like like driving on the freeway.

Drive from LA to Albuquerque sometime. 788 miles. That's over 12 hours at 65mph, but at 85mph, it's less than 9.5 hours. What would you rather do for 2 and a half hours - nef, or stare at a desert?

Four minutes or seven minutes here and there adds up. There are a LOT of people on the road for a lot more than the 7 miles/ 23 miles you're talking about.

I speed because my daily commute is about 40 miles each way on the highway alone. One of those times is in traffic, and I can only speed for about half of it. Consider that in an average day, I spend nearly an hour and forty-five minutes in my car.

I really just want to get the hell off the road, out of my stupid business casual attire and into a nice T-Shirt and Jeans, and have plenty of time to spend doing whatever the hell I want to be doing. It doesn't matter what I do, what matters is that I'm not sitting in my car being non-productive.

I've never found enjoyment in driving fast because there's always someone faster.

in so cal, its almost become a necessity that you have to speed. if you are in the fast lane and doing 65, you can pretty much guaran-damn-tee you will have high's flashed at you, people cutting you off from the right lane, stares and fingers thrown at you. and even though you think you are in the right because you are doing the speed limit, you cant carry a holier-than-thou attitude when it comes to something like that. you just got to swallow your pride and beliefs and move on over to the right, because one little person's actions that day will not change what everyone has grown accustomed to all these years.

If I speed I save about 20mins a day driving (ten mintues each way) 5 times a week. thats 100mins a week, about 40 weeks per year thats 4000mins, say I do this for 10 years, thats 40 000mins I saved over then years. Thats almost 28 days of my life I saved by speeding.

my trip to visit my parents ... 400 miles @ 65 = 6.15 hours ... 400 miles @ 80 mph (not unreasonable on the NYS Thruway) = 5 hours.

more than 1 hour of extra neffing.

now if it didn't have to stop for gas and tolls. 🙁

It's not about enjoying the speed or being the fastest, it's about cutting time out of the drive.

Agreed, I can see where it would be worth it on long hauls (I've personally always found just chillin' in the slow lane on distance drives to be relaxing and enriching) but the people that pass me every day doing 95 in their SUV are what I don't understand.

i speed because it is fun. and the only place i have seen people argue against speeding is in here...people are so uptight on this forum it entertains me.

HAHA, yeah, that always gets me.
3 years ago when I was taking driver's ed, we were passed by some dickhead on a double yellow, he was doing about 30 faster than us. We were right behind him come the next light. When that turned green, he took off like a bat out of hell, only for us to catch up to him at the NEXT one. It was thoroughly amusing.

75 man your slow...
You'd get run over in Houston driving 75...

People speeds because their car alow them. I use to get a lot speeding tickets in my Saab, and never had a ticket in my VW Vanagon or Corolla.

I know that, I do the limit in the RIGHT lane, and I know damn well that you're fvcked if you go left at the limit (+10 is the MINIMUM)

Heh, and about the high beams. Every damned night (I live in the middle of nowhere, it's pitch dark, and we have deer all over the place that like to hop out in front of cars), I'm doing the limit, and someone else is ALWAYS behind me flashing their high beams. It's not enough to flip the mirror into night, I have to turn the OTHER mirrors down so the light doesn't reflect right into my eyes. It's the most annoying thing EVAR, and I slow down just for that special moron.
