you'll never get to lifer with an attitude like that.
About 27 minutes. That's a net savings of 4 minutes. That's not even enough time to nef.

You're absolutely right.

How about all the assholes who like to come up to an interesection on the far right, even though there is no designated lane, and zoom around and get ahead of the people who are driving nice and civilized!?! some dipshit did that to me today and we ended up in the same parking garage at the same time, which gave me the oppurtunity to cut his ass off.

I speed but not outrageously... as in < 7 mph over the limit in streets and usually a little more on highways (flow of traffic - otherwise I'll obstruct and possibly cause accidents). Yay for no tickets in all my years of driving!

Not necessarily. I got a speeding ticket in my 105 hp 4 cylinder Mustang. That car will barely hit 85 down hills.

Speeding is a little more difficult in it, because it takes a long time to get there 😛

in so cal, its almost become a necessity that you have to speed. if you are in the fast lane and doing 65, you can pretty much guaran-damn-tee you will have high's flashed at you, people cutting you off from the right lane, stares and fingers thrown at you. and even though you think you are in the right because you are doing the speed limit, you cant carry a holier-than-thou attitude when it comes to something like that. you just got to swallow your pride and beliefs and move on over to the right, because one little person's actions that day will not change what everyone has grown accustomed to all these years.

I know that, I do the limit in the RIGHT lane, and I know damn well that you're fvcked if you go left at the limit (+10 is the MINIMUM)

Heh, and about the high beams. Every damned night (I live in the middle of nowhere, it's pitch dark, and we have deer all over the place that like to hop out in front of cars), I'm doing the limit, and someone else is ALWAYS behind me flashing their high beams. It's not enough to flip the mirror into night, I have to turn the OTHER mirrors down so the light doesn't reflect right into my eyes. It's the most annoying thing EVAR, and I slow down just for that special moron.

the only moron in this situation is you, if you don't keep up with the flow of traffic you are the danger, not the speeding drivers

When IS lifer, anyway? I *MUST* be getting close.

3700 posts to go for you.

~2800 for me.

do the math, 7 minutes each way, 14 minutes a day, 5 days a week, 50 weeks a year (random amount of vacation) thats a lot of minutes

douche.

Nah, it's always the same damned idiot (White landrover, Maryland plates, bumper sticker that says "MY CHILD IS AN HONOR STUDENT AT WHATEVER MIDDLE SCHOOL". I'd much rather NOT end up with deer antlers through my skull, headlights only give you so much reaction time (No, we don't have streetlights), and they're perfectly welcome to pass me, since there's no other traffic for 10 miles.

you are not doing your calculation right. to magnify how much you will better off if you speeding.

you save 4minutes each way
8 minutes a day
40 minutes a week, assuming you work 5 days a week
1200 minutes a month.

who know what you would be doing with those minutes you saved.

Because driving slow sucks. There is nothing enjoyable about driving slow. Speeding on the other hand..... 😛

I've never found enjoyment in driving fast because there's always someone faster.

It's not about enjoying the speed or being the fastest, it's about cutting time out of the drive.

so what you're saying is that you hate driving

Everyone speeds about 10mph over in good conditions... 55mph on an "interstate" like the Long Island Expressway is just unreasonable.

And typically I speed a little bit to keep from getting bored... seriously.

Yes, but it's broken up into 4 minute chunks of free time because the world doesn't operate on your accelerated schedule. You have to do something that you can prepare, complete, and clean up in 4 minutes. There's very little other than mindless filler that can happen in that time.

i could order me some food for when i got home, and then have it cooking in the 4 minutes i saved when i got home, and pop open a beer.

That's a good point. Modern cars make it way too easy to speed.

If the government really wanted to cut down on speeding they'd just put everyone in an 89 Cavalier. But then the police departments would be losing out on a ton of income.

It's 4 minutes less on the roadway that you'll get stuck in traffic for 30 minutes.

OTOH, there' a greater risk that you'll be the cause of that traffic jam.

Logically it doesn't make sense. It's all about winning.

try going somewhere at 160mph and you'll understand why we do it. When I'm not in the mood to speed, I ALWAYS let agressive drivers pass me, even if it means PULLING OFF THE ROAD. People who slow down for agressive drivers are WORTHLESS.

You don't know why the other guy is speeding....

he could have had a long day and need to take it out on some corners to unwind.
he could really have to take a sh!t.
he could be rushing home to see his kids before they go off to activity XYX.

When I'm not in the mood to keep pace with traffic (like when I'm being orally serviced while driving or something), I can think of no reason for speeding that its possibly in any way worth my selfish imposing or hogging of the right of way.

I love driving fast, not reckless, but fast. I've been driving for more than half my life and I've never caused an accident of any kind.
