I am not talking about your virus that makes your friend's CD-ROM Drive remotely. I am talking about the one the total fscks up your computer. With all the recent virus's going around has anyone been cought who made them, I bet this guy would be Bill's Gate's Dog's playtoy.

If 95% of people used Linux or MacOS, there would be a LOT more holes discovered in those operating systems than are discovered now.

Virus writers are losers that need to get out and get a tan and\or a woman.

There's a big difference between jokeware and a full blown trojan.

You make it sound as if these infections are a new thing, almost as long as there have been computers that has been Virii have you never considered the 1000s and 1000s of virii listed in the virus encyclopedia at Symantec or McAfee or whatever.... it isn't like they all appeared over night.
I bet this guy would be Bill's Gate's Dog's playtoy.
<rant> Uhh WTF are you talkin about "this guy" completely made Bill into HIS playtoy. If Microslop didn't have such insecure buggy code got a clue and listened to the community instead of trying to spoon feed Joe Average (you) a crap load of features that they don't use or don't understand how to use then there wouldn't be half the infections and/or virii that there are since they'd have actually spent some time and effort on security and stability (instead of useless features and bloat). </rant>

Truth is there would be more holes then the Windows system probably...

Why? The same reason that people vandalize public-usage bathrooms, or smash people's mailboxes. Because they're a$$holes that need to have their shins vandalized with a knife, and their faces decorated with a baseball bat....hmm, maybe that's too violent.
Nah.

For the same reason there are snipers killing people they don't even know at random in Virginia for example. Because they are evil and love death and destruction. Of course virus writers aren't in the same league but they are made of the same cloth. Lack of conscientious they call it. Sad, really sad.

It's pure Ego is what it is.

Egotistical programmers who want to act like cyber gods. They think throwing in a little in-stability now and then shows other legit programmers how faulty they are.

It's a "I will show you who's boss" mentality. A trait we all share now and then.

Example: The South Park Episode when Butters gets a sinister idea by making Professor Chaos. This was caused by many of his friends repeatedly putting him down.

hey look its a guy who uses linux and thinks that anyone who doesn't is a total moron.

guess what buddy, think about thanking MS cause they have actually helped out the computer industry quite a bit. I f you have ever commercially developed software you would know its a lot easier designing for 1 system instead of 100's. try writing for unix. AIX, Solaris, HP? which version you ahve to port all that code.

Don't get me wrong i think Linux is good and MS has done some bad stuff(win ME, lol).

The bottom line is why woudl a virus writer write software for Unix or Linux when it wouldnt work on half of THOSE boxes i.e. less than 1% of the boxes int he world. Hit up MS then you get ALOT more attention which is all anyone is seeking.

There was a minor outbreak of a linux worm not to long ago. didnt get much press because
it was linux and didnt do as much damage as a MS attack.

I actually think MS does a good job with patches. Considering the large amount of code they must have it cant be easy to track down.

also people bitch that MS never tells peopel about holes when they find them. Why the hell shoudl they? let everyon know there is a hole that they are trying to patch? some loser out there with no life would hae a worm ready in 15 minutes.

Therefore i fully support MS and the *nix communities. they have their roles otherwise they woudl cease to exist.

when company x produces the operating system that about 90% of the world's pc's use, holes are gonna be found, no matter how hard it is to find them. And naturally there are idiots out there who think it would be fun to exploit the holes and ruin a bunch of people's day.

When the Eastern European communist governments collapsed there were a ton of very good programmers, particularly Bulgarians, put out of work. Most were very bitter. Some created viruses out of boredom, others for revenge, still others to demonstrate their programming skills. This is the source of most of the virus creation tools that you will find posted around on Warez sites.

I think it's a similar cultural phenomenon as terrorism. Feeling powerless and acting out in the most destructive manner in response. That's the official answer. The REAL answer is that anti-virus software manufacturers release viruses occasionally when sales slump. Look at the numbers, you know I'm right.

I don't recall saying that anyone shoud use this or that (OS) or shouldn't use this or that (OS).
guess what buddy, think about thanking MS cause they have actually helped out the computer industry quite a bit.
Oh please do tell us how
I f you have ever commercially developed software
Actually I develop commercial software a systems for a living but thanks for comin out.
you would know its a lot easier designing for 1 system instead of 100's.
OMG really?
try writing for unix. AIX, Solaris, HP?
Been ther done that
which version you ahve to port all that code.
I think you missed a few words there or something.......
Don't get me wrong i think Linux is good and MS has done some bad stuff(win ME, lol).
And so?????
The bottom line is why woudl a virus writer write software for Unix or Linux when it wouldnt work on half of THOSE boxes i.e. less than 1% of the boxes int he world. Hit up MS then you get ALOT more attention which is all anyone is seeking.
Do you truely believe that virus programmers are completely motivated by number of infections?
There was a minor outbreak of a linux worm not to long ago. didnt get much press because it was linux and didnt do as much damage as a MS attack.
And why do you think that's the case? From what you've said so far you probably think that's because there are fewer Linux systems in the world then Microslop system. Never mind the fact that the Linux community comes forward with patches quicker, and the fact that many of the holes are patched before they're exploited since the code is open and 1000s of pairs of eyes review it.
I actually think MS does a good job with patches.
Good for you
Considering the large amount of code they must have it cant be easy to track down.
You somehow think there's any less significant amount of code in Linux? Or any other OS for that matter?
also people bitch that MS never tells peopel about holes when they find them. Why the hell shoudl they?
Because then (for example) people could block the port(s) the virus/exploit uses.
let everyon know there is a hole that they are trying to patch? some loser out there with no life would hae a worm ready in 15 minutes.
Everything else in this post and thread cover this comment.......
Therefore i fully support MS and the *nix communities. they have their roles otherwise they woudl cease to exist.

Shame shame, thorin, you completely missed the #1 source of these problems--giving 3rd parties (web-designers, publishers, etc.) ever-increasing control over the individual's computer. It seems odd that such a knowledgable person would miss that unless...SCHILL!! SCHILL!! (j/k ;))
