Why do people make viruses

I am not talking about your virus that makes your friend's CD-ROM Drive remotely. I am talking about the one the total fscks up your computer. With all the recent virus's going around has anyone been cought who made them, I bet this guy would be Bill's Gate's Dog's playtoy.

Why does MS have holes ?

If 95% of people used Linux or MacOS, there would be a LOT more holes discovered in those operating systems than are discovered now.

Virus writers are losers that need to get out and get a tan and\or a woman.

You make it sound as if these infections are a new thing, almost as long as there have been computers that has been Virii have you never considered the 1000s and 1000s of virii listed in the virus encyclopedia at Symantec or McAfee or whatever.... it isn't like they all appeared over night.

If Microslop didn't have such insecure buggy code got a clue and listened to the community instead of trying to spoon feed Joe Average (you) a crap load of features that they don't use or don't understand how to use then there wouldn't be half the infections and/or virii that there are since they'd have actually spent some time and effort on security and stability (instead of useless features and bloat). </rant>

guess what buddy, think about thanking MS cause they have actually helped out the computer industry quite a bit. I f you have ever commercially developed software you would know its a lot easier designing for 1 system instead of 100's. try writing for unix. AIX, Solaris, HP? which version you ahve to port all that code.

Don't get me wrong i think Linux is good and MS has done some bad stuff(win ME, lol).

The bottom line is why woudl a virus writer write software for Unix or Linux when it wouldnt work on half of THOSE boxes i.e. less than 1% of the boxes int he world. Hit up MS then you get ALOT more attention which is all anyone is seeking.

There was a minor outbreak of a linux worm not to long ago. didnt get much press because
it was linux and didnt do as much damage as a MS attack.


I actually think MS does a good job with patches. Considering the large amount of code they must have it cant be easy to track down.

when company x produces the operating system that about 90% of the world's pc's use, holes are gonna be found, no matter how hard it is to find them. And naturally there are idiots out there who think it would be fun to exploit the holes and ruin a bunch of people's day.

When the Eastern European communist governments collapsed there were a ton of very good programmers, particularly Bulgarians, put out of work. Most were very bitter. Some created viruses out of boredom, others for revenge, still others to demonstrate their programming skills. This is the source of most of the virus creation tools that you will find posted around on Warez sites.

I think it's a similar cultural phenomenon as terrorism. Feeling powerless and acting out in the most destructive manner in response. That's the official answer. The REAL answer is that anti-virus software manufacturers release viruses occasionally when sales slump. Look at the numbers, you know I'm right.

Do you truely believe that virus programmers are completely motivated by number of infections?

And why do you think that's the case? From what you've said so far you probably think that's because there are fewer Linux systems in the world then Microslop system. Never mind the fact that the Linux community comes forward with patches quicker, and the fact that many of the holes are patched before they're exploited since the code is open and 1000s of pairs of eyes review it.

Shame shame, thorin, you completely missed the #1 source of these problems--giving 3rd parties (web-designers, publishers, etc.) ever-increasing control over the individual's computer. It seems odd that such a knowledgable person would miss that unless...SCHILL!! SCHILL!! (j/k 😉)
