why do people go to Subway?

if they have any other local option? 😕

this is something that has always confused the fuck out of me... is it just because it's a known quantity, that you can go to any Subway in the world and get the exact same 3 slices of meat and mediocre bread?

I work across the street from one and I'm always baffled that it's packed during lunch time because you can walk a block further and go to a local pizza shop that makes their own (amazing) bread from scratch every day and piles on the meat on your sandwich. it may be $1.50 more than a Subway $5 footlong, but you're easily getting at least 3 times the meat/cheese if not more.

That you know it's going to be a certain quality (even if pretty low) is why most mediocre chains stay in business in my opinion.

Another *insert deli here* > subway thread? Really?

yup.

I'm still not on fully solid foods after having my wisdom teeth removed, and I'm raging at anyone with the ability to eat whatever they want but wastes it on shit like Subway when they have better options. 😉

You live by NYC... that explains a lot. If I lived there, you bet your ass I wouldn't go to subway.

Here in central texas, my local sub shops are TERRIBLE, and subway is halfway decent. Even then I don't eat much there anyway.

Subway is actually MUCH cheaper than the local sub shops around me. The local shops are great, but you pay for them. Sometimes, especially during $5 footlong sales I'll go just to save the extra $5.

It's rare that I come out of a local sub shop with just a snapple and a 12" sub without spending over $10.

The answer has already been touched upon in this thread. It's like Domino's Pizza...they aren't the best, but they are consistent from shop to shop and this is what keeps a business alive. And when you know you can go to any city and know what to expect, that is what keeps a customer base thriving.

Plus, when is the last time you saw a commercial or advertisement for the OP's pizza shop?

Some local places make a decent sandwich, but they aren't any cheaper, not getting any more/better for the money, and they don't have wheat bread. And I know there are crappier options.

I love how the snobs always assume that everyone has a better local option. Unfortunately, not every place is the f'in center of the universe.

I go to school in Manhattan, and for me it's either $3 for a bagel with cream cheese, $7 and up for a deli sandwich, or $5.47 for a footlong sub.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

They like subs with one slice of rancid meat (or two if they get a footlong), stale bread, and all the browned veggies they could want.

I would suggest you stop going to that deli then and visit your local subway where they use plenty of meat and fresh veggies with great tasting bread... 😀

Some of us don't need 3 times the meat/cheese like you fat people.

for me, it's a known quantity. they have a nutritional facts list that I can check if i want to watch what i eat as well as decently cheap subs.

Yup, and people wonder why they're overweight. "But I only paid $.40 extra for the Biggie size fries every day this week!". That sht adds up, monetarily and fattitarily.

i dont have a local option

actually i do but they arent any better then subway so its kind of a wash

its the same with pizza, i get it from pizzahut because the local places really dont make good pizza

Because it's tasty and cheap.

We have a local sammich shop that is glorious, but it's not a sub shop.

Convenience, continuity, price.

It's an easy equation really...

Plus they're not nearly as bad as everyone likes to make them out to be. Is a local, one off deli going to be better? I would surely hope so. But when I want a cheap, relatively decent sub...I know where I'm going.
