general rule has always been navy = pussies, but that trend has turned generally towards the air force.

i mean, having a paper pusher army job, getting coed basic training at fort jackson, that's not exactly manly stuff, either, but at least they never wear sneakers with BDU's.

i give the navy a pass for the swimming thing. however, everyone in the air force cannot fly. or, well, i guess they can for however long it takes to hit the ground.

Sounds similar to this one:

Man I know from experience. Shitty dorm cable ftl apparently had a colony of ants where all the cables came together >.<

Why do marines live on navy ships? So the sailors have someone to dance with.

Good for them. I have a lot of respect for the SEALs and other forces, but I give the "best" title to these guys:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Air_Force_Pararescue

And then to the guys who go in with every group of special forces:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Air_Force_Combat_Control_Team

Um ok.. lol.. Sorry but no..
Pararescue and Command/Control are too be respected but are hardly 'Special Forces" when compared with Green Beanies, Navy EOD or Navy SEAL's or Marine Force Recon. most of those guys would shit themselves on the first day of selection for any of the above programs..

Navy SARs are just as respected as are the Coasties for that matter and perform many of the same duties and get no respect.

Obviously, not familiar with USAF Para-rescue. Please do some research, and I'll be glad to help you extract the foot from your mouth. :)

that's pretty cool. was that just your platoon (our basic had one DI/TI or more assigned to each platoon) or your whole company? i had thought all the...wait, not 'privates'...googling...'airmen' had to do the sneaker thing.

What Bat said about Para-rescue. And for Combat Controllers - read up on them. They are required to do their training + any training for the teams they deploy with. This means that a Combat Controller will go through SEAL training, Ranger training, Green Beret training and Force Recon training in order to deploy with those units.

I highly recommend you educate yourself.

lol.

Edit: Just a note, read the book about the creation of the SEALs (and the idea of Seal 6) and he says the only men he admires more than a SEAL is an AF PJ.

I served during Vietnam, I slept in a bed every night, I put on clean cloths every morning, I ate cooked meals 3 to 4 times a day, every day, I took a shower every day.

Laugh or ridicule all you want, I don't give a damn.

Thank you for your service to our country.

(and no, I'm not being shitty. I mean it)

Sorry they still aren't as special as the other true "Special Forces" They do not go through BUDs nor the Selection process for Green Berets.. yes they do go through special versions of dive jump and survival schools. but that's not the hard part. the selections are 100x harder than the advanced schools. and PJ and or CC schools and selection are not even close to as hard. Now don't get me wrong.. I fully understand their job their role and thier duty.. and they are to be respected..
but putting them up there with the super ELITE just isn't fair to those that earned those badges.

The misinformation in this thread is sickening. as is the disrespect for the US Navy
seems that all people knowledge is gained through reading wikis instead of actually doing shit..

armchair soldiers..
In my opinion I respect even an E1 Mess Specialist (dedicated cook) in the Navy over 100% of you people except the ones that have earned their stripes by serving.. the rest of you are scum on scums feet till you actually earn the right to talk about the people that serve your country every single day.
I have earned the right..I earned my stripes for 10 years.

It was just our flight(one TI per flight) that did it. Technically we were supposed to; we just never did. The reason they have people do it is to get used to wearing boots. I'm guessing they found if they made people wear boots half a day for the first week you get uniforms they had less injuries.

There are folks both in the military and the civilian world that earn or have earned my respect. A few doctors I have worked with over the years were awesome; go out of their way to save a life not worrying about the almighty $$$.

My brother was a Viet Nam combat medic sloshing around those dam rice paddies for 14 months. I wish he never had to go through that. It did scar him permanently. He was my No. 1 hero.

Plenty of guys I work with or have worked with are some of the most unselfish guys I know. They risk their lives weekly (I can't say daily) and are some of the best trained firemen anywhere.

I've been a full-time firefighter / paramedic for 29 years and
have met some very worthy folks over time....

Navy guys seem to be the brunt of most of the military jokes I hear. But when you think about it...they are pretty badass. They are basically our strike force (aircraft carriers), have the most badass warriors (SEALs), and the craziest bastards (Marines) came from them.

So why all the Navy hate?

My cousin went to Annapolis and served aboard ship for a while. He said they sucked because of all the boot licking, slavish attention to antiquated rules and tradition and general cliquishness. He transferred to the Marines (Now a Captain) and is much happier

most inter-branch jokes are juvenile and harmless. We have good fun poking at each other.

Sadly, sometimes the general public picks up on the jokes, and trends are established.

I highly respect all members of any military branch. Around the world.
I'll joke about them almost every chance I get, and am biased into believing the Army is the best around, but I'll give them all the respect they deserve when it really matters.

We all expect it, and it's definitely not restricted to inter-branch rivalry. We roast each other just because of the jobs we have, even if everyone is the same branch. Or joke about being either Active, Reserve, or Guard. Essentially, half of the military is filled with juvenile humor. The other half is barely graduated from frat humor. :D

What has to be done in the name of discipline tends to always get bitched about.
And it is highly variable, even in the same branch.

My, my, my.....what got your panties in such a wad?

Such a tirade and completely irrational and uncalled for.

If this little bit of ribbing got under your skin so bad to make you post such drivel, you surely wouldn't have had an easy time if you'd served as I did 40 years ag--back when anyone actively serving was almost universally hated.

It was so bad back then that I dare say it was better to be black in the South than an active serviceman in the military. (Have you ever been refused service in a store because you were in the service or asked to leave an establishment because you were one of those "baby killers"? Thought not.)

Grow up.

*shrug* I got the distinct impression from him and other friends in various military branches that it was worse in the Navy than other branches during their story telling. The guys in the Navy always seemed to have worse stories of idiocy. And they were competing against the Army for Christs sake! :awe:

(obviously this is a very small sample size)

Sailors are not as physically fit as the members of other military forces. Additionally, the navy has weird regulations concerning mustaches that leave guys looking like pedophiles.

As a general rule, I guess I would agree that the Navy probably has it worse.

Had to make this separate so I could LOL at it again.

As did the carrier I served on.

I was a GMT in Special Weapons, "W" Div, the keeper of the genie, and we had an awful lot of genies in bottles.
