My GOD that was annoying. I worked at Circuit City for 4 years and it NEVER ended with the Indians. They just kept doing it, and never accepted that we don't negotiate prices.

"Can you give me the rebate in the store?"
"No. You have to mail it in."
"That's a hassle. Give it to me now."
"Sir, this rebate is from T-Mobile, not Circuit City. We cannot give it to you in the store."
"T-Mobile has to give you kickbacks. Why not just give me the rebate?"
"First off, we simply cannot give you the rebate. We do not negotiate prices. Secondly, if I knocked it off now, nothing is stopping you from sending in the rebate anyway."
"But I am your customer. Can't you give me the rebate now?"

"Does this computer come with this mousepad?"
"No."
"Can I have this mousepad?"
"No."
"Are you sure? Its an expensive computer I deserve a free mousepad."
"Sir, we do not negotiate prices."
"I just want a free mousepad"
....it just never ended.

My first guess was that they were Jewish Indians, but I was afraid to say that for fear I'd be persecuted. There aren't any Jewish Indians, are there?

Yes there are. Quite a few actually.

Yeah, all of 5.

I do not want to get into too much detail, but there are a few certain races that are incredibly annoying to deal with when in retail. This is a sad fact; it's not being racist.

I can understand why though (well for the most part), since they have come from a different culture.

They want everything for free and supposedly can't afford whatever they are looking at unless you lower the price. Its really disgusting. They don't seem to treat people well and can't understand that the people that work there aren't directly responsible for the prices or negotiation.

However, there is a way to negotiate and there is not way to negotiate. Most Indian people don't understand this.

I think alot of people that work retail share your sentiment

you are a guju, arent u?

and its "Most Indian People" in ur conclusion....???

Yes, technically I'm a Guju. Why wouldn't it be MOST Indian people? Not all Indians are like that. I've met some really nice ones that understand how to have class, have fun, and live life.

You should all read this:

Confessions of a Car Salesman
We hired Chandler Phillips, a veteran journalist, to go undercover by working at two new car dealerships in the Los Angeles area[for 10 weeks]. First, he would work at a high-volume, high-pressure dealership selling Japanese cars. Then, he'd change over to a smaller car lot that sold domestic cars at "no haggle" prices.

We invite you to read the following account of Phillips' day-to-day experience on the car lots. Doing so will broaden your understanding of the dealership sales process. It will also cast a new light on the role of the car salesman

excerpt:
http://www.edmunds.com/advice/buying/articles/42962/page004.html

Since I was still a "green pea" the other salesmen tried to push me to wait on undesirable ups ? the undesirable customers who the salesmen thought wouldn't or couldn't qualify to buy a car. My manager had, at one point, described the different races and nationalities and what they were like as customers. It would be too inflammatory to repeat what he said here. But the gist of it was that the people of such-and-such nationality were "lie downs" (people who buy without negotiating), while the people of another race were "roaches" (they had bad credit), and people from that country were "mooches" (they tried to buy the car for invoice price).

I'll repeat what Michael, my ASM, told me about Caucasians . He said white people never come into the dealership. "They're all on the Internet trying to find out what our invoice price is. We never even get a shot at them. I hate it. I mean, would they go (to a mall) and say, 'What's your invoice price on that beautiful suit?' No. So why are they doing it here?"

I worked in retail for 4 years and I hated serving Asian and Indian customers because of their persistent haggling and terrible hygene habits.

I really don't feel I'm stereotyping, this is only from what I've seen. However, I don't look Indian. When I worked retail, I really sincerely tried to help people out, and if they were nice to me, I would go the extra mile- fvck the company, these are good people who don't deserve to be ripped off.

Again, I would say that depends on which Indians you deal with. Indians are very motivated people-some are sheep, some are ambitious, with your good and bad in each category. I would notice the clean, polite Indians would always drive a Mercedes/BMW/Lexus. The ones with disgusting hygeine had a Toyota/Honda. I don't understand why affluence correlates with personal appearence, but go figure.

Yes, but working in the IT field full-time I'm used to meeting certain nationalities that have never heard of anti-perspirant or soap, you just have to stand back abit and breathe through your mouth. some people say that it is all the curry they eat, but that is BS one of my co-workers eats it at home and has left-overs for lunch and he smells just fine.

My parents are from a foreing country and they will try to bargain almost everywhere, because in many countries you'd be a fool to pay full price.
However, you'd be surprised to find that many "RETAIL" places would actually agree to sell for lower when requested by a customer.

Why would you not want to save a little?

Circuit City? If they're giving you a discount, they can be fired.

Why not try to save a little? A $2 mousepad on a $1500 computer is NOT saving a little, its being an annoyinf prick who needs to learn what country he/she is in.

Fixed, now it sounds more acceptable.

BTW, am I the only one who thought this was a parody thread?

In India, as mentioned, haggling and negotiating is a way of life for much of the purchases there, so these people I'd guess haven't been in the US to realize that if something has a price, you pay that or don't buy it.
Haggling is still very much a part of business.

If you don't haggle, you're a sucker.

So someone is probably spending, I'm assuming $1k+ and you can't throw in a mouse pad?

If I'm spend a couple grand at a store I will haggle in something like an extended warranty or something!

Because culturally Asian marketplaces are much more flexible and pricing and are highly driven by bargaining. When I went to visit in China I felt really awkward at first bargaining for things, thinking it was an insult (being an American) to underbid by so much. I quickly got over that when I realized everyone EXPECTED that and would actually think you were weird if you didn't.

INDIAN

India is in Asia.

_|_ ABCD, I happen to like my Toyota.

And the rest of you bashing the Indians, you should hear the things they say about your ethnicities. Trust me, when there is prejudice in your mind, you can find a million things wrong with any group. Its idiots like you that ensure that I don't get respect as a customer. Also, while you work piss poor paying retail jobs, Indians like me will become doctors and engineers :)
