Why do colleges hand out so many degrees?

Why do kids with 2.0 GPAs get degrees? Doesn't this hurt us in the long run? Why is the college curve so damn generous?

Because they are giving the Uni money and because GPA doesn't matter in the real world?

Think about it for a bit. Just think.

Well, it is a C average. They didn't fail, but it's not like you make it sound like an accomplishment. Who cares? Graduating people with an average GPA isn't a problem, grade inflation would be a problem.

Jealous that the stupid kids getting laid and drunk every weekend have the same degree as you? 😕

Who cares? Their performance will be apparent when they get their first job.

Meh, depends on the school. At mine you have to have a 3.0 MAJOR average. If you dick up other classes that's cool as long as you pass, but you have to prove you know what you're getting your degree in.

They passed.

Nowadays, you can pass a course and learn nothing.

Aren't grades already inflated?

it depends on how you make the comparison...a person earning a 2.0 at difficult college might get a 4.0 at an easier college. unfortunately college degrees today are almost meaningless. Personal connections are much more useful then anything else.

Because we have this culture today that says everyone should go to college, when really many should not. And they'd be better served just entering the work force or learning some trade than being saddled with debt (even with a degree in something they aren't passionate about).

Depends on the program. A 2.0 GPA is pretty shitty in something like (insert stereotypically easy major here), but could be decent in a tough engineering or sciences program.

hell no they're not.

2.0 GPA where? Average GPA here is ~3.3 IIRC.

Cs get degrees, but severely limit initial opportunities (you need a 3.0-3.5 GPA to do certain things like study abroad here)

2.0 GPA should be average, but grade inflation raises the average. My college wouldn't give you credit for a major class unless you had a C or better, so it's be difficult to graduate with a 2.0. You'd have to barely do better than a C on your major classes and do worse than C on your gen eds.

2.0 gpa is passing, plus you don't learn much when you graduate. Getting degree is a game, it basically says that you can learn.

edit: Personally have 2.95 gpa in finance and i haven't study much so gpa do not really mean anything.

OP, not sure if you worked a job in college or not...

I know a guy who works full-time and gets mainly Bs and Cs. He supports himself financially and is always tired because of the double load of full-time student + full-time worker.

I have a PT job which helps me pay for school-related expenses and gives me a bit to spend on tech.

So IOW GPA does not the full story tell. /yoda
