Why can't I create a FB account?

After years of resisting, I had finally decided to create a FB account for communication and other purposes. After just setting up my base account, and getting some privacy settings set the way I wanted, probably just 10mins into the process, I am asked for a picture of myself. I reluctantly uploaded a pic and was told that I would be notified when it was 'OK'd'.

A couple of days later I try to log in and am asked for a pic of an ID, which I supplied a redacted Driver's License. In the mean time I am asked to change my password which I do. While this has been going on my wife has seen my account and it goes between my REAL name and 'Facebook User', but I cannot login.

Then last night, I attempt to login in and low and behold I am able to login. My wife is already my friend and I can see her posts and I can see I have other messages and friend requests. I figure all is well and since it was ~0500 last night/this morning, I opt to just log off and figure I will continue to set up the account when I have some time later today. I have a bit of free time today and I go to login and I am again greeted with the 'Your account has had some strange usage' or something to that affect and I need to upload a pic again, so I upload the same redacted Driver's License, to which I am now locked out again.

Seriously, WTF? I am using my real name as verified by my real redacted Driver's License - what else do they want? My wife has had FB for years and has never even remotely seen what I am seeing. What am I doing that is incorrect when I am ATTEMPTING to create a REAL FB page for myself to communicate with friends? Has anybody else seen this? I do get emails when new messages appear but I do not even try to login so as to not make it seem like anything 'weird' is going on, which it is not, and am waiting to hear back from FB. Unfortunately this has really made me question why I am not being allowed to create a FB account and if it will be so unreliable for me for some unknown reason going into the future. I am using REAL, document information.

I am not being redirected or hacked as every time I go to the main FB page I go I check the security certificate on my machine and compare it to what comes up on my wife's machine, and the info is the same. Has anybody else had such a problem creating a FB account? Also, I made a dedicated email that has nothing in it, other than the FB stuff.

Any ideas?

Odin is looking out for you, and trying to protect you against bad decisions. You must have done something great to warrant this protection. You should desist engaging in this folly before he gets angry with your foolishness.

Also, I have given my cell and received the confirmation. How many times do you have to confirm?

Trust me, I really don't want FB but so many ppl use it, they don't txt anymore or talk on phone, it is all FB, so I caved only to be meant w/ this BS. Oh, the only thing I didn't give exact was my year of birth, but other than that all legit, which is something I rarely do as I like to keep to myself. So 10mins on FB and I get locked out.....nice.

And I can't ask a question because I can't log in...

Wow are they really that crazy now? I have an account but it's from the early days so never had to go through any of that crap.

There is no freaking way I'd want to give ID to a website like that. Oddly enough, they probably already have all that info and a shadow profile of you, they just want you to submit it to confirm that it's really you.

Facebook has been crap from the beginning, but the increased real name and verification process is to assuage the fears of advertisers, especially after the "fake news" debacle. The whole internet ad economy has been collapsing for a while now, and as Facebook's growth runs on highly targeted ads, having bots or fake users on their platform potentially hurts revenue and growth. You are the product, and their clients demand pure product.

With the Instagram hack they haven't proven they can keep their platforms secure, either, so I say it's probably a good thing long term to be off the Facebook empire.

That is what tripped the lockout.

Why give in? If you aren't important enough to them to call or text, screw em. The 'why aren't you on facebook' crowd just perpetuate laziness. That's how I look at it. FB offers nothing to the world and takes everything. It has not made the world a better place, it has just make people even more self centered. If someone has fun on it so be it, but the 'you have to have an account or you're weird' that the world seems to think it wants is insane and just makes it even less desirable to me.

I was making an effort to meet them in the middle for the communication style of their choice, they know mine. They are much busier than I am so I honestly did not think it would be such a big deal to make an acct and as it turns out, it looks like the acct will not be made, so while I was willing to accommodate their communication preference based on their lifestyle, family and work demands etc, I am willing to only jump through so many hoops, and I am at that point.

Sadly yes. FB will allow years of a TV series to be made off of the people making multiple accts just to f*ck with others (catfish), but me trying to make an honest acct is just not acceptable. Guess I attempted for the wrong reasons.

You have to just ignore their requests. Use a Yandex.ru email and a fake name and a fake picture of some dude from myanmar and set it up. Then ignore their warnings and requests and use facebook/messenger. Eventually they will give up and just assume you are who you say you are (Jaja Lingo from Myanmar)

Privacy is a human right. As long as you comport yourself according to the FB ToS, they shouldn't take your privacy IMO

Fuck those fucking fuckers. Facebook is simply for scrolling through and laughing at other people suffering. Anything else isn't worth it.

Maybe they do not like that I am using a protonmail acct? Out of curiosity, how do I use facebook/messenger when I cannot log it? I am no longer going to play their game and will just leave it as it currently is. I am sure I am not alone and can't imagine their market will grow if I am actually being 95% honest and I get the grief they give me. I guess they would actually rather have fake accts because going the honest route has not paid off.

Facebook want's all your infos. If they could get you to spend the rest of your life filling out inane surveys it would serve their purposes perfectly. You are literally a sheep in their giant information farm every time you correctly answer one of their questions about who you are or what you do or where you are.

Personally, I prefer my personal data not to be a commodity. I use Facebook to communicate with friends but through a fake name with fake data and they know nothing about me.

Look, Bob, it's not well known, but I am the hidden master behind every major social media entity on the net, including Facebook . . . and I just don't like you (see what I did there?)

For one thing, you simply have too many numbers in your AT username. Three is the absolute limit, bob. Three! For another, I believe you intentionally spell the "bob" part of your name backwards. I have a nose for these things . . . a Perknose, if you will.

You've been here nearly 14 years and have amassed over 11 thousand posts, yet have garnered only 11 likes, so nearly no one else really likes you much as well. I feel my otherwise irrational dislike for you is tremendously vindicated by this incontrovertible fact. Moreover, I suspect that all 11 of those likes came from your wife, whom we know posts here as Mayne. We know this, bob. We know this deep in our loins, which we regularly manscape and keep smelling industrially pristine with copious of amounts of Axe body wash.

Bottom line? We're on to you, bob, so . . . No Facebook for you!

Or . . . you could simply make another FB user account with a different username. It'll probably go right through. Seriously, mang, try that.

It's what Mayne would do.

Are you sure you visited the legit Facebook website http://www.facebook.com ?

I didn't use real name or birth day and the site didn't ask any ID.
yes I am using the legit site, my wife is connected to me when I am my real name and also when I am 'Facebook User'. Like I said, I have been on FB for all of about 10mins, maybe they just want to look at my pic and do dirty things to themselves???:confused_old:o_O

How long were you on the site for? I should start up the VPN from a server in a different state or country, grab some other person's pics and make sh!t up and it will probably go through.

Hi, I work for faceboook, and if you could so kindly supply me with your SS#, all your CC#'s along with the 3 or 4 digit code on the back of the card, and your home telephone #, I'll be sure to take care of the problem ASAP.

P.S, if you see charges on the card for a threadripper system & 128GB of RAM, that just means I was verifying your card, to make sure it works.

I'm glad you took my post in the light-hearted spirit it was intended, but my advice towards the end was dead serious. Trouble shoot, man! Go make another FB account right now, under a different username. I give it better than even odds of going through. Please, please just go try this and see if it works!

You could probably get my info easier from Equifax :D, at least then you know it would be accurate.
