Cars will one day be speed limited, and one day after that will be completely controlled by computer.

Why? Because the purpose of driving is to get from point A to point B. There's a share of the population that would be up in arms over a change in one's freedom, but then there's the question of is this freedom worth the lives of 42,000 people each year, among 3,000,000 accidents overall.

And once computer simulation and virtual immersion becomes so good that driving in a virtual world seems identical to driving in the real world, that can be used as an alternative. Plus, there will always be driving courses where all participants agree to the risks and engage in the act freely, as opposed to driving as it is today where none of us have the choice but do so for our jobs to get to point B to do something.

EDIT: america will definitely not be the first country to try such a system.

Don't get me wrong I do not agree with this, but looking at past lawsuits I do not see how this won't happen.

only if you are a wuss that won't take responsibility for your own actions.

or if you're American.. in which case it is your god-given right to sue someone for anything bad that happens to you

The government is not stupid, so much revenue is generated by speeding tickets that the city will take a big, big hit financially if they took it away.

You are aware that 118 mph is the maximum speed allowable for T rated tires? The reason you car has a governor on it is because the original equipment tires are only able to withstand speeds of up to 118 mph and higher speeds on those tires would constitute a severe safety problem.

My current car came with U-rated tires from the factory and accordingly, its speed limiter is set to 124 mph.

And they are going to force me to buy a new car how?

If this system ever comes about, I'll just keep my old car, thanks. Nothing they can do about that.

Your only flaw in this is what laws then govern your car? In america I can drive to south america, canada, mexico...etc...who controls my car? what if I want to go to some uncharted part of the amazon? then what.

It will never fly that far into control.

Yes I am fully aware of that, however, It's not too tough to install U or W or even Z rated tires (though it could get expensive). Of course I could always buy one of those chip replacements, I don't think its worth the 200 to 300 that it would cost. Also, I don't think I would drive it over 118 anyhow, I'm just saying that the car is computer limmited, rather than limmited by the engine, gearing ratio, and drag .... thus its being blocked from achieving its full potential.

And the purpose of sex is reproduction, right? No other reason whatsoever? Birth control should be illegal?

He may have been joking, but he WAS right. America is FILLED with frivolous, "I'm a victim" type of lawsuits.

I personally cant wait for the day the big corporations just say screw it and pull out. Wont happen, but I can always hope right?

Actually, I consider our litigious society to be a sign of freedom. I'd tend to say that I feel the same about guns. Regardless of the criticism of the US, we are the most free country, and I wouldn't trade that for all the Chocolate and Swiss Army knives in the world. It is rare that a frivolous suit actually makes it anywhere. I'm sure I'm being too harsh on the guy, but I'm Mill. I have a reputation that proceeds me. Night night all.

They already do. Here all (domestic) cars (that can go that fast except Porsche) adhere to the self imposed speed limit of 156.25 mph. However, I would say that is plenty :)

No. I refuse to abdicate to someone who doesn't have a valid point, much less someone who has the IQ of a Klinefelter's sufferer. Know your place in life. I can't say I'm going to let you shine my shoes anytime soon. I might let you wash my window at a traffic light, but nothing more jackass.

Excellent. Now you are determining my IQ from one post on an internet message board. Does that make you feel like a big boy?

You don't know anything about me that everyone else on here already knows. Know my place in life? You need to get a life.

I was about to be like, "Domestic Porsche? Jiggawhaaaa?" when I saw you live in Germany... What are M5s and M3s governed at? Or the Audi RS6? They can get up close to 200mph, right?

You doofus. You just jumped on to me for making assumptions, but then you go and do the same thing. I'd say that kind of idiocy gives me a fairly decent idea of your IQ right there. That is -- unless you had some type of hidden point there. But no, the internet doesn't make me feel like a big boy. I leave that to the hookers I pick up on Thursday nights. Do you really expect me to take you seriously? I've smited greater opponents when I was half-trying. Know your place. I'm not about to waste good flames and my mental matter on you!
