Why aren't Americans interested in immigrating to Mexico instead of Canada?

I hate the fact that there are way too many rules/regulations/legislation these days about everything, but on the other hand when there is not enough it can be just as bad. Murder and rape is practically legal in Mexico for example. It's pretty much survival of the fittest.

I highly encourage you to get a passport and experience a little of how other people around the world live. You need to see for yourself that these places you imagine as horrific scenes of murder and rape are filled with families and elderly and children who are out eating and shopping and lounging around in pretty much the same way that you do.

Sticking to the clean and organized suburbs is missing out on 90% of what's out there.

While stuff like that happens, it's still super rare compared to Mexico. Cross the wrong person in Mexico and you become some collateral for the drug cartels.

The stuff on shows like Sons of Anarchy and Breaking Bad is actually ridiculously tame compared to what happens in real life.

I think the worse one I saw was a Glenn (from Walking Dead - spoiler alert!) style execution, but they started with the feet and worked their way up. I never watched the whole thing, it was just too much. It's not the kind of stuff I really seek out, but if I stumble upon it, it sure as hell gives you a quick dose of reality and makes you happy to live where you live.

For a while there was a pretty big epidemic of gang rape too. Right on public transit and other public places. That seems to have slowed down though, or maybe the US election coverage just means we don't hear about it.

Ok, ALMOST no one. That incident was very abnormal of the stuff that goes on here. There is lot of crime in places like Toronto, but Canada is HUGE, out of all places to live, I would not really pick the super packed places. You put a lot of people together in a tight area and there will be some loose cannons.

Crime has been going up unfortunately, even here, there was a stabbing a few months ago, and a murder suicide several years ago, but still not as bad as the stuff that goes down in Mexico especially the drug cartel stuff.

I for one like freezing winders and blizzards. I'm ok with 1 or 2 weeks of warm weather, but I can't imagine living in mexico full time.

My "live someplace else" choices would be Norway 1st choice or Chile for 2nd choice. Some place with cold winters and mild summers,

Yes, as someone smart enough to keep around a proper fucking coat with gloves and a hat, winters are fantastic. There is no better time to look down on people for being sad and uncomfortable while you're blithely going about your business.

Speaking of healthcare, as unperfect as Obama care is, if Trump really does rip it out that is going to screw over so many people.

I don't get why the states don't just go to a system like we have and call it a day. Stop screwing around. People should not have to worry about the financial aspect of their health. I did not realize this, but in the states most health care insurance is through the employer, that means if you are running a company you're on the hook for that, or if you are unemployed or run a small business, you are also on the hook for it. As a doctor you also have to deal with all these different insurance companies instead of just the government. They also don't fully cover everything so if you get something major like cancer you still most likely have to sell your house and live off the streets or in some crappy apartment. The whole thing just sounds like a huge mess.

lol so true. Best is driving in 20cm of snow, kinda complaining about how they still did not plow the streets yet, but whatever. Debating if it's worth stopping by Tim Horton's or going straight to work. Then get to work and see on the news that some city down south got 5cm of snow and it's a huge state of emergency. Basically what is a state of emergency to the unprepared is an inconvenience here.

FYI, traffic laws in Mexico are generally more strict than in the U.S. or Canada, and enforcement is quite vigilant.

I was in Norway this summer. Its kinda crazy weather on the coast. Alesund for example is about 40-60 year round. Its further north than Anchorage.

My ancestors on my mom's side came to the US from Kristiansund, more or less in the middle between Trondheim and Alesund. It's 4 islands, nowadays they are connected by bridges to the mainland and each other...

New Zealand here. Four seasons, first world, great scenery. If I could land a job down there I'd go in a second.

It would be high on my list as well. Looks so awesome.
