Why are there multiple hate-win-8 threads?

He means we don't need multiple hate threads,for example if you go to the other forums and somebody post a similar thread(whatever subject does not have to be anti-thread)) they get merged/locked or warned by a Mod etc that there is an existing thread ie for example seen it in PC gaming many times etc...having too many threads on same thing is pointless and does make a mess of the forums.

Anyway guess this one is really up to the MODs to decide not us.

Multiple threads - single topic, it usually means this is a hot topic and the threads even being about the same thing often go off in different tangents and have differing points of view etc. Lumping it all together, there's just zero benefit IMO.

"Lumping it all together ",well you could say samething about multiple threads on samething,got to see it both ways,personally I like things neat so one big thread is my preference,it also stops the trolls and we all know they do appear in multiple threads,also I can look at those other threads I'm interested in on different topics rather then trollling through the multiple mess of same threads,end of the day OS forums are for more then one topic so we don't really need mutilple threads that cover same subject topic etc..

Again its really down to the Mods IMHO.

One big thread = Censorship. You are advocating censorship. I have the impression that this forum a place for people to express opinions and ideas openly, without concern for suppressing opinions dis-favorable to Corporation X.

How is it censorship?..you can still post what you want on the subject(as long as you stick to forum guidelines),it keeps it all in one place, just like you see for one big thread for example in PC gaming ie WOW thread or Diablo 3 thread to name a few.

As to Troll ie "One who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or mesage board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument" .


I've no problem with anybody posting positive or negative as long as its on subject in question and constructive.

Bottomline its down to the Mods.

i understand why microsoft would find multiple threads (in any forum) that do not speak well of their product to be inconvenient. i also understand why individuals who are unnaturally preoccupied with promoting windows 8 would also find threads of windows 8 to be inconvenient.

enforcing a censored reality by forcefully merging all new threads with a perspective that you disagree with into one jumbled mess certainly would be a great way for microsoft suppress the visibility of the magnitude of dissatisfaction that exists around windows 8. It is a brilliant scheme, and it certainly will be effective in promoting the appearance of windows 8 success if only by suppressing anti-windows 8 commentary. This scheme will also simplify the job of any poster who feels tasked with defending windows 8 here on anandtech.

Not really censorship if you can post your viewpoint,you don't need 1000x threads in same forum on same subject matter to get your viewpoint across,as long as there is one thread you can get your viewpoint across.

I should point out when I say "one big thread" I mean for all forums and not just Win8 like you have stated Win8, like it has been done for ages, again PC gaming forum for example ,plenty of official big threads on Diablo3,WOW,Skyrim etc..

I just want all forums to be treated the same standard ie same rules ie OS forum should be same standard as the other forums.
For example I rather have one big thread on subject in question,regardless of topic or forum,then have hundred of threads on samething all over again all over the place,guess I like how neat PC gaming forum has always been compared to OS forum .

You could have one anti-8 thread and one pro-8 thread,but anymore on exactly same topic would be overkill IMHO,obviously you could change the subject and start a new thread.

Anyway think we have covered everything in a polite debate 😉

Guess Mods will decide one way or another like I always keep saying .

I think you are missing my point,its not just hate threads or OS only but any thread that is duplicated etc... from I love threads to any other thread you can name,if its multiplied etc..its wrong we don't need multiple threads of the samething regardless of what it is about,so I'm talking about any duplicate/multiple thread of same subject in ANY forum.


As for IE10 no thanks!!!!!!!... not used IE as main browser since IE3 days,I'm Firefox /Opera fan which has way better customization 😉 .

I'm just giving my opinion so not a problem,I did not make this thread,I'm also being polite so don't see the big deal to be honest,yes I have seen it all come and go here since 2000.

I'll try and make it clear,look at PC gaming forum here http://forums.anandtech.com/forumdisplay.php?f=44 ,notice how many official threads there are,all on different subjects and no duplicates etc,maybe we just need one official hate thread here and official like thread,anyway think I covered everything I wanted to say 😉 .

True but unfortunately hyperbole seems to be more the rule than the exception lately. There are any number of OS releases from the past, both MS and other, that were far worse than Windows 8 when taken in context. I'm not comparing technology, but the package as a whole in terms of presentation, compatibility and interface. Windows 8's core is good, even if the interface is poorly designed. Ask anyone who dealt with Windows ME at release...now that was a POS. In comparison, Windows 8 is awesome. I'd take a badly designed interface with a solid core any day over a nice interface with a rotten core.

In regards to the multiple threads, I think the issue is less about Windows 8 and more about the fact that given the accessibility and anonymity of the internet. Many believe that there opinion is so clever and useful that they must hurry and share it with the world.

I live in the real world where there are plenty things to worry and get emotional about. DRM and Windows 8's interface are way down on my list of stuff, but you would swear that some people are so emotionally invested in this stuff that it becomes an addiction. I also think some people read way to much into things and have opinions implanted about things they might have otherwise come to difference conclusions about had they done things independently.

I'm not a psychologist and I'm not saying I know the inner working of the human mind, but I'm sure I'm not the only one that has noticed people get way too bent out of shape over some things.

Naturally the fact that I'm sharing my opinion makes me sort of a hypocrite, but at least I'm aware of it. haha 🙂

There are so many because them Win8 haters keep bringing them back. People get tired of reading their whining and ignores the thread. Well, them Win8 haters are not going to let that happen so they start another thread, with a different title maybe, but it is the same old whining. And they will continue whining till they decided to install Apple software or Linux. But even then, they still couldn't stop themselves whining about Win8. Nothing much can be done about them other than ignoring them.

Can't these be merged into one? Does not seem like there is any reason for each individual complaint to have its own thread.

I vote for an official "I hate Windows 8" thread, and leave the rest of this board for other legitimate troubleshooting and discussion.

Because some people are fine with the Windows 7 version of the desktop interface and there wasn't really a good reason to mess with it. If MS really wants to push a new interface fine.

They could have at least had the option to boot to an older style gui in win8 without people having to download and install 3rd party software in order to do so.

As usual you never bothered reading the posts here,for example I was saying ALL threads that are multiple etc... ie Win7 Win8,Win9,Win10,etc should be one big thread if its the same subject,then you can all post in here and rest of us can ignore or post depending on the topic in question,PC Gaming has many official threads of different topics,multiples get locked or moved quickly over there.

I think if you were an admin this forum would be very small. Image if you had a problem with your computer, and before you could get a reply you see that it had been moved to a 100+ post thread started a year ago, since your problem has "something" in common with the others.

The problem I see is if you start doing this with Windows 8, where would it stop?

Maybe I am missing the point of these forums, but I don't see how shutting people up so people like you can save 2 seconds of scrolling would be a good thing.

Exactly, multiple problem threads are welcome in that regard because everyone has different issues from software to hardware etc...
