There's only ONE thread that could even be construed as a Windows 8 'hate' thread. It's simply not a big issue.

The fact is, the apologists can't stand the dissenting viewpoint. As evidenced by this thread, many waste more paragraphs spewing hate at those that don't like Windows 8, than people have written expressing hate for Windows 8. That's been a patern from the start:

Person 1: "Windows 8's UI is poorly designed garbage."

Person 2: "five, six, seven long-winded posts of spew about how person 1 has to be wrong about having an opinion other than one approved by person 2, fear of change, unable to use the OS, I'm suuuuch an OS expert, the usual blather, and how can we change the entire forum to sensor person 1."

I probably should have locked up this thread 3 days ago, but anyhow...

Let me be clear here. It falls to the mods to decide what is and what isn't acceptable for this forum. I say that to remind you guys that no single individual (including just myself) gets to dictate what goes on with this forum. So saying what should or should not be allowed is foolish, because it's not your decision.

In any case, there are about a dozen regular posters in this forum. Everyone here knows where everyone else stands. So we really don't appreciate the "us vs. them" mentality some of you are trying to foster. This is Operating Systems; this is the right forum to discuss Windows problems, ask questions about Windows, give your opinion about Windows, and yes, even bitch about Windows. The threads so far have been fine, and in fact the only problem we (the mods) have right now is with the hostile and passive-aggressive posting.

Windows 8 has some good points and some bad points, just like every Windows version before it. Hating it doesn't make you a bad person; neither does liking it. Respect each others' opinions and build upon that. Otherwise if people start throwing around words like "apologists" in this forum, that tells me that they're not serious about technical discussions and would rather hash out their interpersonal issues in the open.

-Thanks

I sincerely apologize for using the term apologists. I only meant it in the context of defending Microsoft a little too much -like they are beyond criticism, even in the face of legitimate complaints or even flat-out dislike for whatever reason. I feel they're in the big leagues and can take whatever is dished at them and no one owes them any shred of automatic support for whatever commercial product they put out. Still, I realize they way I used the term comes off as very uncivil, so sorry.
