Why are salaries so low in the UK?

Those wiki homicide rates are just raw info, and should be ignored if you can't look at those numbers with a little common sense.

How many times are guns used legally in self-defense against a criminal and then that shooting gets reported on the US homicide rate statistic, then read to mean higher crime? Our homicide numbers include cops justifiably shooting criminals too if I remember correctly, and attempts, not just when death was the end result. And then people lump in the MEXICO stats with the US. Heck, Mexico is a war zone!

In the UK you are more likely to get mugged and beat up by a gang with knives. Since you only end up in the hospital and not dead then UK homicide rate is lower, but are you really safer? Is there really less crime in the UK?

It comes down to this question: do you want to live in a country where only the criminals are armed, or would you rather be in a country that allows law abiding citizens to at least attempt to protect themselves?

Btw, I live in North Idaho. EVERYONE here has a gun and it's still a darn safe place to live. I attribute that to the character and morals of the people living here.

And the US is a big place. You can live in relatively safe and cheap Small Town, USA, or you can live in the dangerous and expensive big cities. There is a little something for everyone here, depending on the lifestyle you want.

And, while I've never been to the UK, I would assume it's similar there to some extent.

I'm not interested in a debate over whether London has "stuff to do" or is an exciting city. My issue here is that New York, Toronto, Chicago, LA, etc also have "stuff to do" and are exciting cities.

The only thing London doesn't have apparently is the salary to match these other cities. That is what I was curious about.

I always wonder what's the deal with people who say large cities don't have much to do. I have a friend who thinks the city I'm in in boringville. The city has about 800,000 residents. It shouldn't be that hard to find a group of people who do things you like to do. Biking, computers, some kind of creepy sexual fetish, whatever.

You would be better off being on welfare for that amount of money. UK food prices and clothing prices are much higher than US also . But i think that the salary is so low because of their “free” healthcare. The extra 20 to 30K you are missing for that goes to health benefits. How much comprehensive health insurance would cost you in the US?
Ah... forgot, add to that housing prices also double or triple what it would cost you in the US. Ah..also the UK has some of the most if not the most ugliest women in the world.

London is a terrible place to live. High taxes, Very expensive everything, and a just plan crappy place to live. It might be fun to visit for 1-2 days, after that, I wouldn't want to touch it with a ten foot poll.

I could see wanting to live in other parts of england (The midlands are quite nice.) It does have its ups, international foodstuffs is one thing that we don't really get in america that you get in england. Public transport is nice. And if I was going broke, england's welfare system is much better then the one here in the US.

That being said, I don't think I would ever want to live there again. The people are trapped on an island and many of them don't even know the difference. The government brainwashing is so thick and heavy, it is almost enough to make anyone go nuts.

Curse at a bus driver? We have CCTV cameras and DNA swabs to find you!!! (even though we have no idea who you are or what your dna looks like). Use a TV without a license? We'll find you!

When I did a lot of work in refineries, we had "refinery standards" which were always 3 to 4 higher than they would be outside of the refinery.

I fail to see how that is an issue as I can buy swiss chocolate no problem. How easy is it to get Mexican, Central American and South American goods there? I'm not saying it isn't there, I'm just saying you probably didn't notice all the stuff missing, only what was "new".

I'm a red blooded proud American. But I was FLOORED when I visited London for the first time.

You cannot help but to notice how FAR FAR less fatties there are in UK. My friends and I were floored right off at the Heathrow airport.

UK women are HOT. No more lard asses & I was also stunned to see beautiful 'urban' middle eastern chicks in tight jeans & clothes with beautiful hazel eyes.

Skinny is ugly per default with me so that doesn't work, but there are a LOT of fine women in England. I'd say per capita we are beat only by Denmark.

Take a stroll through London, Cambridge, Sheffield or even Suffolk or EVEN Brixton and you'll note that the hot ratio is quite high, of course, in London there are a lot of overweight American broads so you'll have to hear them oink before passing judgement.

In reality, there are lots of fine looking women everywhere except Wisconsin and China.
