Sounds like you need to expand your horizons
I used to be all about gaming. It's all just boring to me now, except for racing sims. Love them. I want more... I've thoroughly beaten all the Forza games, so now it's time to jump back to Gran Turismo. The last one I played was 3, but I never owned it, so I never really "beat" it. While I'm sure GT4 was a great game when it came out, it doesn't hold a candle to the modern stuff out there. Otherwise, I'd just get a PS2 and start there for the time being.
I guess the conflict here is that most of you have a gamer mentality, while I do not. I have one game on my iPhone that I rarely play (Bejeweled 2) and just play the Forza games from time to time.
Flaming me for thinking $200 for a bare console is too much is short-sighted. For someone simply looking to play a game, the PS3 seems a bit expensive. The used market seems to average around $200. Most of the PS3's I see under that price are broken.
Is my claim SO outlandish that it warrants flame? I mean, Best Buy sells refurbished 80gb PS3's for $160 when they have them in stock. These units come with warranties and will play PS3 games just fine. So why are the *same*, ~4 year old non-refurbished, thoroughly used systems going for about $200 on the used market? It just doesn't make sense to me. You can also buy a brand new 160 gb model for just $50 more, with a full warranty.
So really... is there something I missed about the PS3's resale value? For example, some iPhones resell for more money than others just because they're unlockable. I've seen fully working Xbox 360's go for $50 just because they're banned from Xbox Live. I find it hard to believe that backwards compatibility stops the console from depreciating in value past $200...
