Why are porn companies still in buisness?

You're the one that is being a fucking moron, use common logic for god's sake bro!!!

This is a pointless argument!!! The caveman did not invent the wheel so they could drive to porn events, writing wasn't invented to read porn, telescopes weren't invented to watch porn(i'll give it to ya, that one is arguable), mathematics were not invented to calculate porn, the typewriter was not invented for porn, radio wasn't invented for porn, the television was not invented for just porn, Morse code was not invented for porn, the space shuttle was not invented for porn! the internet wasn't invented for porn! video games were not invented for porn! blu-ray was not invented for porn! Porn takes part of industries just as any other business does!!!!!! PORN DOES NOT MAKE THE WORLD GO ROUND (It does help though)
You're missing a key point here. Porn did not invent these amazing media technologies, for the most part. Modern medias are born and killed by whether or not publishing companies want to use them. Porn companies tend to all band together under one banner and pick one technology, be it VHS vs. Beta, Bluray vs HD-DVD, high-speed internet, etc. The pornographers don't make the technology, but they provide tremendous monetary backing and contracts that encourage a certain technology. Porn is multi-billion dollar per year business, and it's all media. Money like that has pull in technology battles.

But so does every other type of media communications!

That's one of the point's i'm trying to drive across and some people just don't freaking get it. I have never said that porn doesn't make money, or doesn't help the industry or isn't a huge factor! It is! But going as far as saying that PORN IT SELF forces technology to advance is WAAAAYYYY off the common sense measurement meter.

but IT DOES NOT FORCE TECHNOLOGY TO ADVANCE AS SOMEONE ELSE STATED ABOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! . You stupid ****** ***** ****** ****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL. You obviously didn't read any of the articles linked for you. You must have some retarded definition for advancing technology. It's advancing 3D technology right now. It invented and advanced ecommerce verification/transactions. It has advanced how content is pushed thru the internet.

VHS over Betamax

eCommerce Verification/Security/Transaction

Requotes that obviously you wanted to skip:

Though most Internet buffs have probably never heard of him , Mr. Gordon, 62, played a significant role in the birth of electronic commerce. While Amazon.com and eBay were still fledgling enterprises, the companies that Mr. Gordon founded in the early 1990s were already laying the groundwork for electronic transactions conducted with credit cards — a development that opened the doors to the first generation of e-commerce start-ups.

Porn merchants have been the creative pioneers of e-commerce. They were the first to use shopping-cart technology and credit cards for online payment. They figured out ways to transmit large graphic files despite narrow bandwidth. And they were early adopters of innovations such as streaming video. They also devised ways to disable your browser's "Back" button and to gratuitously open window after salacious window to prevent you from leaving their sites.

Alright...you know, whatever...have it your way, i think i rather not get banned over an argument that isn't going anywhere and i clearly have reason on. Blabber all you want about how porn makes the world go round. I'll be off enjoying a movie while you keep thinking you're right. Guys, bad news, when people stop making money off porn, the world will go into an economic decline and russia will eventually end human existance as we know it because their exotica worker union has launched a strike.

Ok...Capt. Dumbass over here...are you capable of understanding the difference between helping and FORCING? Seriously? May i suggest a dictionary?

LOL. Wait, does Advancing mean Forcing? Are you changing your definition of Advancing again? Inventing doesn't count though right?

Seriously, go be a noob in another thread. The fact that this twenty year old information is new to you is sad.

LOL, he called you a bad name. 😀
He's using the "I lost the argument, so I'll resort to twisted semantics" angle. You can't change someones mind like that, he's got a lot of growing up to do.

Let me see if I have the gist of this thread:

1) guyver01 posts examples of ways porn has advanced consumer technology
2) RavenSEAL chimes in and says "lawl no you're wrong, give me proof"
3) proof is posted in the form of links from several large, reputable news sources
3) RavenSEAL refuses to accept the sources/guyver01's statements as true/mostly true
4) other posters chime and and basically tell RavenSEAL that he's an idiot
5) RavenSEAL becomes butthurt and starts using big, red text and starts arguing over semantics

That sums it up, I think.

There's some passionate people here when it comes to porn. Almost as many as say, consoles.

It's not passion around porn just trying to argue and educate an ignorant noob.

10+ years ago, I used to work for one of the CMGI companies. They owned Furniture.com, Mothernature.com, Navisite and dozens of other internet start-ups.

Now, some of these companies handled 100s to 1000s of transactions a day. All of these companies processed orders manually. Imagine having to hire 5-20 people just to process orders on the website and manually enter them into a financial system.

I was able to develop and automate this process to handle ecommerce transations but also royalty payments to 3rd party content providers and invoicing to advertisers. Little did we know that the porn industry had already been in doing it for 10 years already.

not everyone wastes time downloading porn
bluray porn...i mean really how many gigs are you going to download...

color me impressed

where do you think the porn comes from?

also... many technology advances came as a result of porn..

VHS..
The Internet..
High Speed Internet..
DVD..
BluRay..
3-D..
Interactive Holograms..

The porn industry forces technology to advance.

You're going to have clarify what you mean by "came as a result of porn" (no pun intended). The porn industry may have been among the earliest adopters of those technologies, not one of them was invented for or by the porn industry or with porn distribution as the primary purpose. None of them needed porn to achieve success (excluding 3D which I don't think we can call successful yet, and I assume you're joking about the holograms).

No, all the porn industry does is take advantage of every new technology to make money*. That doesn't mean the porn industry forces technology to advance.

* e-commerce is an exception; the only exception that has been posted in this thread so far

What i mean... is without the financial backing, as well as the distribution market of pornographers... none of those technologies would have achieved any semblance of success.

Because the porn industry decided to go to VHS tapes... VCR demand skyrocketed... VHS tape popularity took off..

Because of pornography online.... High Speed internet demand became prevalent... noone cared about 10Mb download speeds... until they realized that they can download porn in 10 seconds... as opposed to 2 days..

Porn industry was pretty much the only player in streaming video for a long time. Last week I was at my friend's house and he showed me this new thing where he could stream episodes of Family Guy on his xbox. I thought that was really cool since we don't even have Hulu in Canada. Companies have been streaming porn for a minimum of 10 years now. Remember realplayer? Buffering.....

lol @ "none of those technologies would have achieved any semblance of success." You might be able to make that argument for VHS, but not the others.

I can't find the statistics now, but IIRC the last time this argument came up on ATOT I looked it up, and the adult video industry only accounted for about 20% of video disc sales.

The porn industry is an early adopter of technology, so you can say they have sped up the adoption of some technologies. That doesn't mean they would have failed without porn.

You can ask just about anyone if they bought DVD/Blu-ray/High speed Internet specifically to watch porn. I think the answer in most cases would be no. But ask them if they use DVD/Blu-ray/High speed Internet to watch porn, and they'd say yes. That's why I'm saying those technologies would have succeeded without porn. People don't buy them just for porn, porn is just the icing on the cake. People didn't get cable modems because they could get porn faster, they got cable modems because just browsing the web was slooooooooooooow on dial-up.
