Why are girls obsessed with being tan?

In most part of Asia, being pale is more attractive. Most people in China still take an umbrella to protect themself from the sun so they don't get a tan. Skin whitening is very popular over there.
 
It's the same reason they obsess about weight and guys don't
It's the same reason they obsess about hair and guys don't
It's the same reason they obsess about makeup and guys don't
It's the same reason they obsess about clothes and (straight) guys don't

Women are obsessed about all aspects of their appearance because they're trained to. It's part DNA and part being besieged by the BS in Vogue, Cosmo and Glamour from a very early age.
 
A tan makes a person feel better,it provides a feeling of that reminds a person of summertime🙂

Being pasty white is not a look I find exotic or attractive.
 
I've spent waaay too much time in the sun for most of my life, lifeguard, golfer and generally an outdoor person. My wife is just the opposite and is very light skined (glows in the dark). We are in our forties now (her mid, me late) and her skin is still suptle and beautiful, mine is wrecked. My skin is leathery, ashy, and paper thin, and I can barely bump something and start bleeding. I'm sure I also have skin cancer to look forward too🙁 as my Dad (just like me) has been fighting it for years, he goes about twice a year to have more burned off.

Moral of the story, tanning is BAD! Don't do it

i really dont understand this facination with summer, winter is just as good, and TBH i look forward to it more then teh summer

your view is exactly why girls have to pursue perfection. They NEED to be tan, but not TOO tan. Why cant you people just like girls for who they are 😉

More serious note, married people probably change their views of attraction to more closely match their spouse. Just a thought
 
Do yourself a favor guys and don't marry one of these tanning freaks unless you want a 40+ year old wife with leather like skin and early wrinkling. Most people who spend their entire young lives tanning to look good generally spend the last half of their life looking much older than they should.
 
cuz of white guilt coolness became anything but white.
its a bit of self hatred
say what you will, but getting your lids done like how some asian girls do doesn't have a cancer risk like white girls are exposing themselves to. you hear plenty about the lids and how awful that is but tanning is pretty much accepted these days for some reason even though its worse really.

as for tanning suggesting health, thats nonsense, health suggests health. work out and eat well and you'll look good no matter your skin color, it shows through. tanning suggests falseness.

Pale is damned gross, though sometimes girls, especially the occasional teenager, doesn't realize that there is a tipping point, and extra time will not make them look black, just brutal.
