My GF is tanning right now as we speak. No pics, sorry 🙂
Now I am about as white and pasty as they come and couldn't care less about my skin color.

What's the deal?
 
Because all the magazines tell them they aren't pretty unless they are tan?
 
my gf is so obsessed with it......I thought it was a Floridian thing, but i see lots of girl (and guys....) from boston do it.
 
because i feel sexier and better about me when i am bronze (not leathery brown). I don't like to lay in the sun so i would rather tan. Its quicker, has less UBV rays and makes me feel warm.
I like the way i look when i am tan. Those "little flaws" are not as noticable when the body/face is tan.
Anyways, a lot of girls like looking like they have been on vacation.

Tan can be sexy, but it's not required. And then there are plenty who have tanned ... a little too much.
 
I actually prefer woman with a clean complexion and lighter skin. Although most goth girls are whores, I do think they're hot.

popular culture, peer pressure, desire to fit in with the norm, endorphin release, stupidity, wanting to look like a unusually tall oompa-lumpa and/or a normal size prostitute, etc.

Back in the early days of Friends, I used to think Jennifer Aniston was hot as hell... but then one season she (and Courtney Cox) showed up looking like snake skin boots.

Fscked the whole thing up for me and I was pissed.
 
I'm alright being a pale girl. I figure most people look best with their natural skin tone, and if "snowy" happens to be mine, I don't have a problem with it. I think I would look bizarre tan.

you are certainly sticking up for a slim minority. I will contest your statement that alot of women without APS like to fake n bake. I think these occurrences are few and far in between.
 
Tans even out skin tone and suggest health. Yes, I know about the risks and damage. But there is no denying that some people look better with tans.
