As for public places. Most people don't seem to understand what constitutes a public place. A store, business, or bar is not a public place.

uh, yeah, it is. it is a place of general access for the public. 'public smoking bans' don't just ban smoking on property owned by the state...

Stop hanging around asshole people?

Most of the smokers I know of are actually quite pleasant and ask if it is ok to smoke. Hell, they even ask when I'm in their home/car if I mind before they do. I haven't met the stereotypical asshole smoker in years.

Actually, its the rabid anti-smoking people who are complete assholes these days. I've seen people call someone who was smoking a murderer and all sorts of other crazy shit.

Actually they are public places since that is who they let in. You know..the public.

Deal with it just like you deal with a million other things you don't particularly like but have no right to change. STFU and get on with your life.

Yea, that totally ruins the exhaust experience for me. I just sit there and pray that a diesel with their robust aroma will come by to overpower the cigarette smell....

biggest difference is the diesel doesn't latch onto the fabric and is gone very quickly.

I'm talking about the last cloud of smoke that gets blown out the window and you drive right into it when traffic starts moving (fresh air intake below the windshield). Happens every so often. Usually not a whole lot but enough to know what you just breathed in.

Hehe, you have no idea how insignificant that is. You're in a cloud of the fumes of hundreds/thousands of vehicles already.

I know, I hate that too. I have my windows rolled up in the winter, and I can still smell the smoke from someones car in front of me, when they have the windows rolled slightly down driving down the highway

I've experienced it at a light, or while slowly driving behind someone on residential roads (barely). But I'm calling bullshit when you're driving down a highway (40mph+).

I will say that I'd rather a smoker just smell like smoke when they come back in from their smoke-break, rather than trying to take a potpourri shower to cover it up.

No joke, I have become much more sensitive to the smell of smoke since i've moved out...my parents were damn chimneys (1-2 packs each a day), probably one of the reasons I never wanted to touch cigarettes.

Smokers don't care about themselves, don't expect them to care about anyone else.

Yeah I can smell it driving down the highway as well.

I just kind of laugh at the smokers that will sit there and cough and gag for a minute or two then say it's just allergies.

It may not be illegal in a lot of places to smoke inside, but it is severely frowned upon in most. I remember travelling through the Carolinas and being completely baffled to see people smoking inside a grocery store/gas station - and I'm from AL. Overall though, smokers who are that inconsiderate about their smoking habit are generally just as rude in other areas of life.

wow, can hardly remember the last time i saw someone smoking inside a non-restaurant/bar place.

each to their own buddy. many times I've turned off the outside air because of some dolt. significant enough for me to make the effort to hit the button.

I dearly love that one cartoon drawing of a very cold day with a group of people huddled together near a back door of a building.. little girl asks her mother, are those homeless people? I feel so sorry for them.. 'no honey they are just smokers'.

If you watch The IT Crowd (great show), there's a funny episode in season 2 where smokers are portrayed as Russians being sent to the gulag. :)

reminds me of a walmart checker that was clearing her break with a supervisor .. "well I'm going to go on break now, I need a COUGH COUGHCOUGHGAGHACKCOUGH cigarette. whew my bronchitis is really acting up".

I have never, and will never smell cigarette smoke while driving. Unless it's me or someone in my car lighting up.

That is all.

On another note, my wife being an elementary school teacher has mentioned before about how some little kids (kindergarten, 1, 2 grades and higher) will come in reeking of smoke in the morning. Somehow I don't think it is the kids smoking on the way in. Some form of child abuse comes to mind.

I know we stopped letting one of our daughter's friends Mother give her rides anywhere after finding out she smokes in the car, with the kids in it, with the windows up. Didn't take long to find that one out.

Good deal for you :) I have smelled it more times than I can count and so have others. Perhaps you are dulled to the smell since you smoke and do so IN your car from your post wording.

I know that they know that the non smoking people find it repulsive. It seems they could care less and it is their God given right to invade my space with that disgusting habit of yours. Whether it's walking into a store and having smoke blown in your face, lighting up in your car or home, or stinking up work areas with that crap, etc. I don't even like walking by your smelly ass.

They love the stink of their addiction, why don't you?

Uh, no they're not. I'm not even sure how you can be arguing that a privately owned business is a public place.

it's 'public' because employees and customers are allowed freely in and out. if the business is a bar or smoker's lounge, yes, you have an argument. otherwise every public smoking ban disagrees with you.

why don't you go masturbate in a walmart and then laugh at the cop who arrests you for public indecency.
