Why are Apple products always hyped?

What is so special about the iPhone? Yesterday, I went to SOHO and at the corner of Prince and Greene I see a line of people waiting to buy a phone. A phone. I see the Apple rep hi-fiveing people after she confirms that they are the primary account owner. I've also keep hearing about MacBook Air as if it's a special type of computer.

What do these apple devices have that others do not? I don't get it.

its a hippie thing. i read on gizmodo that it was the iPocalypse yesterday when the 3G phones couldnt get activated.

More than adequate technology for consumers, great aesthetics and an affordable price. What's not to like about it?

they have style, making them almost fashion statements.
they also tend to be easier to use and thus more popular with non-techy people. or at least, that's the image they are trying to project and it seems to be working. great marketing.

Most apple products are not at an affordable price for what you get.

I've used Mac OS X before and I have Vista now. Same thing, except you have more options on Vista (if you want it). Other than that, they are the same. I guess people want limits imposed.

Maybe it's the fashion thing.

Yeah. If you're looking for an affordable phone, you take the free one that comes with the service plan, not the $600 iPhone. Apple has never been about affordability; it's about status.

iPhone is $200. 😕

I went by the Apple Store today in Barton Creek Mall (Austin, TX) to return something and pick up a Nano for my mom and keyboard for me. I had to wait ~15 minutes to get into the store, and I wasn't even interested in the iPhone. 😕

They had two lines, one for iPhone customers and one for people just to get into the store. I talked to a guy in the iPhone line, and he said he had been waiting for 6 hours.

You're totally missing the point you techno dweeb.

It's not $5000 for a phone with wacked out Microsoft Exchange support, it's <$500 for a cool accessory that gives you a cell phone, address book, calendar, iTunes, vids, a FUNCTIONAL mobile browser and games that is thin and cool looking and is practical for everyday use.

$500 is not something just rich folks can afford.

Now that they've reduced the price, there's really nothing else out there that can compete in the younger consumer market.

LOL, high fiving customers.....that is just stupid and lame. As stupid and lame as making a thread asking what the big deal about apple is b/c it's been done over and over again.

Do you have an answer because the answers are all over the board. I'm asking because these Apple launches are hyped everywhere. I see them on every site. I read about them in the papers. People talk about them. You don't see this level of hype unless it's a major OS release from Microsoft. But Apple is able to do it with V2.0 iPhone.

like it or not they push the market forward with certain products like the ipod or iphone. features/usability advances = spur competition. everyone benefits even the apple hater. if apples competitors were doing a more kick ass job there would be no apple hype possible. same if apple were failing bad...like they were in the early 90s before steve jobs came back.

bingo, with tons of apps and enterprise features it now justifies its price. its the whole package, not just a nit pick feature here or there some people concentrate on.

as for affordability. ever look at the price of high end video cards recently? and what does that do? play games😉

I can get the same thing in my PPC smartphone that I bought 2 years before iPhone came out. The main difference is the itunes part, though I listen to music every now and then. Not sure about newer smartphones but the battery life sucks on my PPC 6700. My PPC 6700 set me back $299 in 2005 and it has an SD slot for upgrading.

They make good stuff, but the OS is what does it. I run a Mac school, and it's great. The products are SO OVERPRICED, and Apple's decision to go with AT&T exclusively killed my thoughts of buying an iPhone (of course, I just bought one for T-Mobile, but it's a cheapo plan)...Great OS, sexy products, but very high price...
