Got the game and it is addictive!

Day/night seems to be too quick for my liking though.

Can you heal yourself other than though making food items?

I'm having a big issue finding resources other than wood, stone, soil, and sand. I've been digging and digging and digging but find very little if anything. I seem to be finding gold ore(looks like rock with dull gold colored veins in it?)

Sucks that if you die you lose all items.

I have my main base and then I built a small stone "house" near some mountains a little way off from the main base (in case I got stuck there at night or something).

As far as I know food items are the only way to regain health (kill pigs or farm wheat).

Resources are hit-or-miss for me. Sometimes I'll find a ton of good stuff in a cavern, other times barely anything. It sounds like the dull gold veined blocks you found were iron.

You do lose all items if you die but they just scatter around the spot you died. If you go back to your spot of death you can pick everything up again.

Check out the Minecraft Wiki for crafting recipes and tons of other info. Very helpful.

Yep pretty sweet game.

Food is the only way to heal. If you're not finding enough pigs to slaughter you can start a small farm to get wheat for bread.

Yeah sometimes resources are tough other times you find a natural cave loaded with coal, iron, and once you get down towards the bedrock, diamond and such. Check out a mining guide for depths of resources but generally the bottom of the map has the most rare stuff as well as the higher depth stuff like coal and iron.

Put it on peaceful for a bit if you're having trouble until you get some iron tools and armor. Then check out Krakn's server. Multiplayer is very early and has no monsters or damage but you can build crazy stuff then.

Started a new world (without snow) and tried a different approach. found some diamonds and a good bit of other stuff. still not like a lot though.

This game is like crack though. I can't stop playing it.

WOW!! found a huge area where several caverns open up. There;s a few lava flows, a huge undeground waterfall, and a flowing river. I see some stuff that looks like obsidian but I can't mine it yet.

Also found a hidden room that had 2 chests and a some sort of fire pit thing. not much in the chests. Did find a pig saddle though, lol. Was like a cage with fire in it. I keep hoping to find a huge vein of some sort of ore but never find anything with more than just a few blocks.

Explorer is cool but now i'm lost and I have full inventory. need to get back home somehow...

The cage is actually a monster spawn point. I found one in Krakens server with spawning Skeletons. They would come up to you flash, die, and drop 2 arrows. I wish I didn't kill the cage, because they were a nice source of arrows.

Make a compass. It will point to your spawn. You'll need some redstone and iron. Iron you should already have found some if you've been exploring a cave. Redstone is only found very deep near bedrock, so if the cave you're in doesn't go down that far, you might want to just dig straight down till you hit bedrock and start mining from there.

Also you could use geographer, which is a program that analyzes your minecraft save and makes an overhead map of it.

I have a compass but it doesn't help when you're miles underground, does it?
Won't it just point in the direction, not tell me which tunnels to take?

a map of my mines would be nice to have, lol.

Although I seriously need to get rid of this game. I spent ALL DAY yesterday playing it. I got up around 10:00 AM and played until about 11:00 PM with only bathroom breaks and breaks to go get/make food then bring it back to the PC.

I think after that session I'm slowly starting to lose interest though. too bad the SP game style isn't available for MP.

I am starting to feel the same way. I always start to lose interest until I find something new or learn a new technique. I think I burnt myself out on it, that is of course until the Halloween update. Hopefully the update brings enough change that I will be addicted for another weekend or two.

But honestly, probably the best $13 I've spent in a game... ever.

Yeah, since I got the game, I think i've put in enough hours to cover the cost, lol. I haven't been this interested/addicted to a game in a long time.

So My spawn point was on a little island with nothing near it and I explored a bit to find a good place to build camp. Can I reset my spawn point to my camp?

How do I spawn back home in Single Player? can it be done without modding?

It is actually pretty easy. All you need to do it die. Of course there are consequences to that, but as far as I know it is the only way to do it while keeping with the game mechanics.

Finding caves isnt as bad as you think. Just pick any direction and walk it, soon enough youll find a cave with a crap ton of resources. just make sure you leave blocks behind to find your way back to your home. I recently found a massive cave system and cant find my way out. I mined about 120 iron blocks too just from exploring that cave.

HAHAHAHAHA

I have done that. Restrated 3 worlds because of being lost.

Why you ask?

Well, in every world I have started (4 only) my spawn point is MILES from anything good. So travel is at least a full day journey till I get to a place with a little of eveything.
And I didnt know about the 5 minute timer initially.
SO I got frustrated and restarted because I wasnt "Storing" my good stuff. The first three times I died I lost both a LOT of coal and some iron.
And always went back to where I thought I died and could never find my stuff. Mumbling, cursing. Searching and most times DYING again.
then I read about the 5 minute timer your stuff goes bye bye thingy.

Small update to my gaming.

CHICKENS BEWARE!!! YOU AR MINE GIVE ME YOUR FEATHERS AS BOW AND ARROW IS FTW.
I build a HUGE pit of gravel in my main mining facility and mine flint all night long.
Is that a bug that is going to be fixed in the Halloween patch? Seems kinda cheesy to re-mine the same blocks begging for flint. Yeah Yeah, I know the gravel disappears if you get a flint. Still, seems weak. BUT I STILL DO IT.

Just need those damn chickens.

Discovered TNT as a mining tool in the SP game and must say it's a hell of a lot of fun to blow a giant crater right from green grass to the lava base layer of the world... just dig a single wide hole straight down and then jump/drop TNT in a nice neat stack right back to the top... left click, run....

Boom.... boomboomboomboomboomboomboomboomboom.....

The WORST multiplayer bug has to be the non working furnace/forge... if you can't smelt iron you are basically stuck with rock tools (which means no diamond/redstone) and no access to glass blocks at all. Has to annoy GM/admins to be pelted with "can I have" requests the whole time they are playing for basic tools and such. Hopefully to be patched in the Halloween release!

wachoo talkin bout willis?

The furnaces work fine in MP.

I had a furnace that would eat everything I put in it. I eventually just tore it out and replaced it. The new one worked fine.

Exactly! Lost a bunch of iron ore and coal cuz of this bug. Did the same thing of destroying it and building a new one to get it working again.

Give it a google friend, it's a fairly common complaint in MP that forges frequently don't correctly indicate creation progress, often don't work (inputs not destroyed though), and sometimes eat items placed within while producing nothing. I believe you can smash/recreate and try again which sometimes fixes the problem but it's certainly a widespread problem.

It's alpha so I don't expect perfection, just one of those puzzling broken features given it works perfectly in single player.

Just get to the highest place you can and dig your way out by making stairs.

Geographer also has a setting that shows you the caves, but it's more useful for finding where the caves are than finding your way out of them.

The furnaces can definitely have issues in MP but work the vast majority of the time. For a while, some of my furnaces were eating my shits up half the time. Sometimes I think if you start smelting and run far away you can come back and everything is gone. But lately it's been fine, other than the progress bar is known to not work.

My 1st SP world had okay resources but very mountainous and not that great overall. My second was better except my spawn point was on an island kind of far from the main lands. My 3rd one now is great. My spawn was right by coal, sand, trees, hills, and there's like 3 large natural caves in the immediate area. Though there isn't any water around, but I haven't went past the immediate area.

Do people use some kind of programs to help that build these huge constructions? I know in a lot of cases that materials were given by admins, but still some of the things I've seen are very impressive. I've heard they used some kind of program that tells them the sizes and layout and such.

When I made my 1911, it was just using lots of trial and error and looking at pictures. But my next project is even more difficult and wonder if I could use something to help. I downloaded a model of it in Google Sketchup which is a little better than just 2d pictures.

Where can one find this Geographer mapper?

Now I know how those Chilean miners felt when they got out that cave.. for the past four days...maybe a total of 8hrs, ive been trying to escape this MASSIVE underground labyrinth. Tonight I finally got out that bitch. Im playing offline single player BTW. I didnt have any pickaxes at the time, so I couldnt dig my way out! I was sooooooo tempted to jump into a pool of lava, but I came across some chest in those monster spawning areas and found some saddles. I didnt want to lose them. So now its time to get my epic mount 😀

Edit

Mounting pigs = overrated.

Cant even control them. 🙁
