this . I wonder what he's gonna say when I say the i3s are now irrelevant for gaming because of fx ... oh well

Noooooo, i3 is faster than FX [/sarcasm]

ps: I bet this graph will be the holy grail of Intel's i3 gaming debate in the next few months :p

Getting one of the 8 cores. Why not its an upgrade and I like to support AMD.

8350 Just seems equal to a i7 950 clock for clock to me i do not see the reason for a big fuss over it.

You can get those for 120$ @_@

That AMD now finally get around the performance of a much cheaper Intel i3 dualcore? Congrats. Now they just need the last 50% performance up to the equal priced 3470 that uses a fraction of the power.

Lets hope there will be more of those games where the i3 loses, than where it wins:

wonder when / if Micro Center will add these chips to their AMD CPU+ Mobo bundle offerings. That should sweeten the pot for potential buyers.

REALLY not sure if the 8320 is a good upgrade for my Phenom II at 3.7GHz...

I already have 2x4gb of DDR3-1866 coming since it was so cheap and could only buy an AM3+ mobo to use the new mem but would it be worth it?...maybe yes with a 100$ or less mobo...

Will Steamroller will be on AM3+? No one can tell...

if you can tell Piledriver is a great upgrade over Phenom II and yes AMD said Steam Roller will be AM3+

A good deal on 6300 or 4300 and a mobo might tempt me. The i3-530 in my second desktop doesn't OC half as well as it used to and I need something new to play with . . .

Actually, 60% more if you want to be picky. That is still a lot when the performance is lower except in heavily multithreaded workloads.

So it consumes as much in single threaded workload that when
running 100% the eight cores..?....

The graphs that show the comsumptions under full load
would be the same one with with let say a single threaded
task using a single core at 100%..??...

Not me...my fx 6100 is the last AMD cpu/build.

I don't know, maybe steamrolla' will surprise....but i doubt it.Im going with intel in about 2 years when i build my next system.

It was my fault also,i jumped from a Athlon x2 5000+ to a phenom 2 925 (so awesome), then to a fx 6100 (not so awesome).

I'm planning on replacing my home server this year.
The FX6300 is looking pretty attractive to me at it's price point.
I plan on running a FreeBSD host OS with 2 or 3 dedicated game server guest Linux OS's. Nothing "big" just small servers for me and friends to play on.

Earlier I had been considering an I3, or simply purchasing an off lease server since you can get low end 1U or 2U servers with 2 x quad core xeons for like $250, but, then I'd still need to keep my current server, or build a NAS box for data.

Vishera draws 26W more than 3770K on the system level when both are running ST workload (according to xbitlabs) :).

Somewhat tempting, but my 1055T at Stock is still doing everything fine. If my current Mobo gets flakey, I'll do it for sure. Otherwise I dunno.

As per usual, a "who's going to get one" thread turns into and Intel/AMD fanboi brawl :(

Well, it isn't our fault that the Intel Cartel are going into full meltdown mode now that the glorious AMD has proven that is is guaranteed to reclaim superiority with the dark side. It is clear that everyone that isn't an Intel cartel supporter, owner, employee, shrill, and fanboy is piledriving by the dozen right now.

There is simply nothing Intel has to compete with this superior chip, and it is guaranteed that at least 30-70% performance is coming with a couple of months with Steamroller.

Those that fail to see the landslide in the making will be swept away by the resurrection of the last great savior that will slay the great dark beast.

Piledriver has defeated every Intel CPU
Steamroller will vanquish come out before haswell at a quarter of the price and will perform at least 50% better than it
Excavator will be a few short months from that, and it will give us more performance than any chip we can even imagine at this point

There are those of us that are seeing the truth, and there are those supporting the evil beast's cartel and monopoly with no facts, logic, information, or reason behind themselves.

Some new info(or old, dated dec 2011) on SKyrim's poor optimization(thanks to a poster over at XS):
http://www.kotaku.com.au/2011/12/mod-boosts-skyrim-performance-by-up-to-40-per-cent-could-be-faster/
The “TESV Acceleration Layer” is a new mod that claims to increase Skyrim‘s frame rate by a clear 30-40 per cent, without affecting graphics quality… or anything else for that matter. It does this by using rewritten SSE2 instructions and removing redundant code from the game. This isn’t even the best (or worst) part — according to the mod’s author, the boost could be in the area of 100 per cent, if Bethesda had bothered to optimise its code.
It’s a tall accusation for a random guy on the internet to level at one of the biggest gaming studios around, but then, we have stuff like Hot Coffee, so I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. That, and he sounds like he knows what he’s talking about. But first, the mod.
The mod itself is actually a DLL that requires the Skyrim Script Extender to operate. The author, Arisu, says the library increases performance by up to 40 per cent in “all CPU-dependent situations”, with cities being the prime example. It does this by cleaning up some messy routines that do things they don’t need to and optimising simple functions that are called many times during each frame of gameplay.
The description also mentions that Bethesda built the game without a number of special flags that optimise code paths. Oops.
OK, so that’s out of the way. What about the 100 per cent thing? Arisu’s explanation is somewhat in-depth, but essentially, if Bethesda was willing to do the proper optimisations, the game would be going much, much faster. It’s hard to verify how accurate this information is, so we’ll need to get in touch with Bethesda and see if it can expand on the subject. The core issues with the game are its lacklustre use of multi-threading (which Arisu admits is not a simple thing to address), loads of redundant code, lack of optimisation flags at compile time and generally unoptimised instructions on critical code paths.
I have yet to crack open Skyrim, so, anyone out there who’s brave enough to give it a go, please do, and let us know the results. If they’re positive, then this news could have far-reaching consequences for Bethesda (and its programmers).

Once I see benches of per core performance I will decide. As it stands my 2500K is still leagues ahead of AMD.

I'll consider it for home linux server use paired with ECC memory. That is if I can figure out if either one of the 2 AM3+ boards I currently own have BIOS support for ECC. For desktop use I'm just waiting for a good excuse to do a refit on my current system so I can swap in a Z77+3570K although I might just hold out to see how Steamroller vs Haswell shakes out. Despite what some posters may say gaming at high settings 1080P and productivity have been fine on my Phenom II x6. I bet there are quite a few people with Phenom II x4-6 and Core 2 Quads wondering if they can hold out for 2013 products as well.

Steamroller will prolly equal or be close to performance of Sandy bridge.

To be honest. Anything (Piledriver or sandy or ivy or bulldozer) will be better than my e2140

what is with the settings for this benchmark?

Does this computer have no graphics card?

I mean who games at 1024x768 in 2012. Who games at anything lower than 1080p besides me? :D
