I agree... at this point i'm swinging towards Beshear. He's a hugely popular Democrat in an extremely red state. He knows how to talk to people in rural areas. No known scandals, and also endorsed by unions. Shapiro definitely has some negatives that have emerged. no deal breakers normally in my opinion but there's no need to have to fight off those accusations in a tight race

and we can keep shapiro as an effective governor in PA, who barely is just started his term
I like Andy and want to keep him as governor though! He can have McConnel's seat in a couple of years.

I think even the perception of impropriety should be held above all else. The floor for merit and capability is very low in this election so they aren't going to win extra votes by picking a VP who's competent, but they will massively lose votes if the 'both sides' perception persists.

Picking a VP with a whiff of scandal will get ripped apart in the swing states. I'd literally prefer they pick a clean rando off the streets.
See there you go, applying standards. Which, as we know, only apply to Democrats :p

If those are the final 2 options, I'd want to go with the (former) command Sergeant Major Walz.

Edit: Notably 24 years of military service as regular enlisted in National Guard, including serving in Afghanistan, working his way up to just below the peak possible Army enlisted rank.
Generally a moderate, well liked and well known in congress with 12 years in the House after taking and flipping a red largely rural congress district. He's one of top union picks also.

With all the stuff going on in Israel and Palestine, I don't think she can pick Shapiro.
Im back and forth. Walz they could potentially go after him on his reaction to the George Floyd protests.... ???
Shapiro... I think his israel stance is over stated.... either way they are both good candidates and will only affect margins. He's widely approved of here in PA.

Who is the most qualified for the job? Who would you want to take over in 8 years?

I honestly don't know much about any of the candidates but Pete. He definitely seems very sharp and could handle the job. I think he would make a great presidential candidate in 8 years.

.No idea how Walz is on this subject, but I did not like what I read about Shapiro's response to student protests. Struck me as quite GOP-ish. Also didn't like spending public money to settle a harassment suit against one of his top advisors.

I have a feeling it will be Shapiro simply because of PA. We shall see.

If anything, the National Guard handled the Floyd protests better than the local police departments, because they weren't looking to pick fights and exacerbate the violence like the local cops wanted.

^^^ That's what happened in Detroit in '67. After multiple days with dozens of local PDs and State Troopers involved, the Mayor and the Governor had had enough. Johnson ordered in the 82nd Airborne under the Insurrection Act and it all stopped right quick. Tanks rolling down city streets had an effect.

What's actually bad about him is him wanting to cut corporate taxes in PA and also his support for school vouchers. There are some fundamental differences there with with Democrats who are not right in the super moderate. I think many somebody a little more with us.

While I don't like school voucher support anywhere, I think the tide has been turning on that whole system and we're already starting to see Democrats move away from it in a lot of places, which is a good thing. I think it's something where rational, informed heads are paying attention to the vast sums of money being lost on equal-poorer performance than the status quo, that this is really just privatizing education for zero gains all the while you are simply transferring wealth from taxpayers to private, often strictly religious corporate owned for-profit, share-generating systems. It's absolutely ghoulish, to be fucking honest....but you simply can't ignore those numbers for long if you remain part of the data-based, informed party. i.e., Democrats.

Blame for the George Floyd protests should be where it lies, with Derrick Chauvin

Agreed, I don’t like it simply because it seems all the public schools are left with primarily the idiots then we complain about why public schools tend to suck.
However, there are private schools in my area that educate very well. Parents seem to like them a lot. We don’t have kids so I trust the parents know what they’re doing and I feel the voucher system is simply a losing battle so why fight it.

It's kind of a self reinforcing system though. Parents who can afford to send their kids to private school are invested in their kids' education in the literal financial sense and in the practical sense. So of course those kids will do better than average, because they are very much setup for success from the start.
