Well, to be fair, did anyone think the Democrats would rally this quickly around Harris, or anyone?

I sure as hell didn't.
I didn't think it would coalesce so quickly given the rumor mills and pundit class conspicuously leaving Harris's name out of their mouths and floating [insert wishlist politician]. Thus was born my initial skepticism to the arguments for Biden dropping out. The end result could have been a total shit show.

But it seems he worked behind the scenes to ensure a plan was in place and ensure support for Harris. We maintain continuity with the administration, and that means politically speaking, there won't be a total break from good policies and actions the administration took over the last 3.5 years.

I figure once Trump is gone the GOP is going to fracture more than usual. The crazies like MTG don't accept any non-crazies, it's been Trump to kind of hold it all together.

I don't give a shit who she picks, just hopefully be someone that helps get us to a win in November.

Going from a net -15 favorability to nearly break even (and similar improvement in battleground states polling) is like smashing a home run in your first AB.
Having said that, it's a snapshot in time, so I've cautioned people that the work is far from over with 3 months to go.

Betting markets shouldn't be considered predictive, but they still favor Trump by a hair (he peaked at 66% a few weeks ago):

I think fskimospy has said that Trump won't win so obviously if Harris is the Democrat in the race she is bound to win. On top of all that Trump is acting more and more weird. Shudder!

It's pretty hard to be united when there are only 2 choices. 2 party systems suck.
You dont really have to strongly agree to support Harris over Trump. Hell, she would not be my first choice either, but she is far better than Trump. I think a lot of younger voters (and probably the extreme wing of the Dems in general) dont understand or accept the concept of "the lesser of two evils."

Or self-proclaimed independents who think BothSides (TM) are the same.

I knew it would happen, but it seemed obvious to me. Been saying for years that Harris was a great VP and would make a fine President. Not sure where everyone else's resistance was. All I heard was GOP talking points being repeated.

Ummm I am literally seeing the people that are posting the anti-Shapiro stuff and it's been noticed by a lot more people than myself. It's a group of leftists from all backgrounds, shapes, and colors.
Has this been posted yet?

from my circle the main pushback that i could find (besides not being progressive enough) on him is his pro-big business stance , his pro school voucher stance(?), and of course his stance on Palestine. People from PA really like him though, most others have barely heard of him.

Half of America wants someone at least as dumb as they are, someone they can have a beer with. Not sure that's a plus for Pete, hell it would be used in GOP attack ads probably. "He doesn't even speak American!!"

Of course, nothing says "down to earth, like a rock" like a gilded New York City grifter who has never probably done an honest day's work in his life, and who got out of going to Nam, so go figure.

"Vice President Harris has narrowed her search for a running mate to six finalists and is planning to conduct interviews with them this weekend, according to two people familiar with the process who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss confidential deliberations."

Those 6 finalists are:
- Gov. Andy Beshear of Kentucky
- Gov. J.B. Pritzker of Illinois
- Gov. Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania
- Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota,
- Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg
- Sen. Mark Kelly (Ariz.)

As Shapiro’s past statements on Palestine come to light, I’m kinda hoping it’s not Shapiro.

It's probably already done, they're just hammering out the negative fallout by picking them now and the one with the least negative will likely be her pick.

If looking to go for the least negatives, after further review this past week, I would probably pick Beshear

I am legitimately curious. Specifically what do you think has Kamala done as VP that makes her "great"?

I cant read the article without paying for it. When was it published? I thought it had already been narrowed down to Shapiro, Kelly or (ugh)Walz. If those 6 are all still in the running, I am starting to think Beshear might be the best choice. I am sure the Reps would find something to attack him for, too, but as far as I know he doesn't have any obvious vulnerabilities like most of the rest of the list. And he has shown an ability to win voters in a Red state.

Sorry, bah Washington Post has changed how gifted articles work, you have to make an account now & provide e-mail address to read gifted articles which is stupid (don't have to actually pay/subscribe)

Was published today August 2nd, at 12:03 pm eastern - that is latest current news. That article, and other reporting, also confirms that Beshear, Buttigieg, and Shapiro have all cancelled previously scheduled plans for this weekend.

I'll ask you a similar question. What made Mike Pence so much a better VP vs Harris?

I never said Pence was a better VP than Harris. Harris has just "been there", pretty much like any VP. I don't think she has done either anything "great" or "terrible" either, although the Reps (fairly or not) will attack her for not doing more to solve the Border problem.

I actually thought Pence was a terrible VP, a total suck up to Trump, but he did redeem himself somewhat by refusing to go along with Trump's attempts to overthrow the election.

Not being a total shitshow is a giant step up for a VP compared to Pence or JD Vance, or Trump for that matter.

Being comatose is a major improvement, if like me you think that the less those turds get done the better. And yes, Pence gets some kudos for standing up to Trump trying to steal the election. That doesn't change the fact that his Jesus-based politics are awful, just that he had a spine hiding in there by the end. Maybe it took being personally insulted by Trump multiple times.

I felt she could have been more visible as VP, but that may say more about Biden's team than Harris, no idea. It's not like the VP normally just freelances on their own.
