I have basically nothing better to do, so I actually looked it up.
Shapiro won 24% of counties, Whitmer 22%, and Walz 15%. So yea, you have a point, but Walz is still considerably behind the other two.

As an aside, just think how dominant the Dems could be if they somehow could win back even 10 or 20 percent more of the rural vote. I mean the party in Minnesota is the Democratic, FARMER, LABOR party, two of which they have managed to drive to the Reps.

No, but the people who live there do. Maybe if the Dems could provide a message that would win over the rural and white working class voters, they could actually win the Presidency and both houses of congress and actually have a functional government that accomplishes something. Dem policies are actually more beneficial for most rural areas and working class voters than the Reps, but they dont seem to be able to convey that strongly enough to win votes.

How can they? Brainwashing isn't easy to counteract.

It's so funny reading this topic from the beginning now. I bet, it would be even funnier to read it in December...

So you had so much time on your hands that you provided those figures but at the same time are too busy to provide the Walz/ natl guard timeline?

Lazy much or just being a hypocrite?

The only message they need to hear is stop listening to preachers who tell you Democrats are the devil and stop listening to conservative media that tells you Democrats hate America.

They aren't exactly receptive to that message though. Maybe you'll have better luck spreading it.

IMO they shouldn't pick anyone that had anything to do with handling of the George Floyd incident. Too many attack vectors lol.

The long game says not only somebody that can help win in '24, but who can also help retain in '28 and carry the torch in '32.

Although I imagine at least a few posting in this thread will be dead before then.

You can't really put that into a very short slogan like "Make America Great Again" and "Illegals are stealing your way of life". Simplistic hate and fear is what those people want to hear, seems to me.

I've heard that very message said many times (that Democratic policies are better for them). They don't seem to want to listen. They vote for people that put in a tax "reform" that boldly gave a huge fucking raise to the ultra-rich, and then Paul Ryan tells a fantastic story about some single Mom who will save enough to pay her 10 dollar (at the time) Netflix bill. They piss on them and don't bother to call it rain, and get their votes back in return.

In short, I don't blame the Democrats for not reaching rural voters. They don't have a choice but to keep trying though.

The George Floyd riots were far more than an "incident". Nevertheless, I absolutely, 100% agree with this. The Dems are so screwed if they pick Walz.

Seeing the Veepstakes going on with all the wild speculation about perceived weaknesses from different factions in the Democratic party makes it clear the sudden shift from Biden to Harris was a good thing. Imagine this crap going on with the top of the ticket for an open or brokered convention.

From his reply to the tangerine terrorist‘s RNC speech:

“Last night, Donald Trump once again attacked our union on a national stage. That should tell you everything you need to know about the man and the candidate. As we’ve said for many months, he stands for everything we stand against. Trump claims to be attacking us in the name of protecting American auto workers.

So tell us why, when Lordstown closed in 2019, when Trump was President, and our members were on strike for 40 days, he said nothing and did nothing. Tell us why Trump pushed to move auto jobs out of Michigan to drive down wages.

Tell us why Trump “renegotiated NAFTA” for the disastrous USMCA, under which manufacturing jobs continue to leave the country and the trade deficit with Mexico has gone up, not down. Tell us why Trump blamed the 2008 auto crisis on the autoworkers. We’ll tell you why. Because Donald Trump always has and always will side with the billionaire class against the working class.

He doesn’t want to protect American auto workers. He wants to pad the pockets of the ludicrously wealthy auto executives. He wants to cut the corporate tax rates of his golfing buddies and keep the stock buybacks and Wall Street manipulation going. He wants autoworkers to shut up and take scraps, not stand up and fight for more.

He talks about the electric vehicle transition as the reason our industry is under threat. Our members don’t go to work every day because they’re passionate about combustion engines. It’s about our families and our communities getting our fair share of the record auto profits, electric or not. The threat we face is corporate greed run wild, and that’s what Donald Trump enables and celebrates.

America’s autoworkers aren’t the problem. Our union isn’t the problem. The working class isn’t the problem. Corporate greed and the billionaires’ hero, mascot, and lapdog, Donald Trump, are the problem. Don’t get played by this scab billionaire. Stand up and fight for more.”

Edit: I mixed up Teamsters & UAW presidents.
