AT&T's servers are too busy to activate mine. 🙁 GRRRRRRRRRRR

Do you activate it online via itunes? My wife just got her's from the fedex man a few hours ago, so I have to figure out how to activate it when I get home.

Trying to decide on this.

Give my 16GB 3G to my wife, and jailbreak/unlock her 6GB 3G and sell it on ebay for ~$300 and pay another $300 to get a 16GB 3Gs for myself or just suck it up until next year. I use my phone constantly for games and internet browsing, so I'd utilize the new hardware pretty good.

Input?

As a 3G owner I am going to pass this time around. There is nothing hardware-wise that will make this a worthwile upgrade, and the new OS will take care of most gripes we had with it from the beginning. Don't get me wrong, new bump in the hardware specs is nice, but it's not nice enough (to me) to justify a $400 expenditure at this time. I am holding out until next year when hopefully a truly next-gen version will be released and I will be eligible for full sibsidy price.

In the meantime I will enjoy my new Nokia N97 that will be delivered today 😀

The $400 expenditure is offset by the amount you get to sell your old phone for. I managed to get my old iPhone 3G 8G sold for $350 and so I'm paying $50 for an upgrade. woot.

Yup, via iTunes. Just like the original iPhone; at home activation.
Good luck getting it to activate. Apple says it may take up to 48 hours. 🙁 Mine's been sitting on the "Awaiting Activation. This may take a few moments" for about 2 hours now.

Hmm quick question for those of you that have one. I need an IM program (mostly for AIM). It has to use data not text messages. If it's free, that's cool, but it better be darn good if they charge a bunch of money for it 😛.

The AIM app is free. It's ok, but it has ads. There's also an ad-free version that you can pay for.

Drove by the ATT store. Laughed at the people, and took a picture with my 5 MP phone. Oh and the flash (xenon) went off too 😀

And you still don't have an iPhone.

K, so I can do what that I can't do with my iPod touch and N-Series already? Oh right. I can pay more per month to get the same 3G service that's available to everyone for $15/month.

And what's the difference between buying @ ATT store and Apple store?

I recommend Fring - it's pretty decent.

I actually like AIM over Fring, but IM+ kills them all.

I'm happy that my gf and I were able to get our iPhones today with no hassle. We went first thing this morning and since they were reserved it was a quick trip at the Apple store. First Apple product I have purchased and was really happy with the customer server. The iPhone itself is really great, we both love it and are having a great time with the new phone.

Hmm the one thing I like about this phone so far is how light it is... my AT&T Tilt weighed a lot and when I was at work, I'd keep it in my breast pocket. But getting annoyed at feeling the weight on my shirt, I just always left it at my desk. This new phone is a tad bit nicer in that aspect.

Although... it was a real pain in the ass to put the screen protector on... especially since I swear I suffer from OCD! I figured out that it was much easier if I only pulled the sticky-cover-thingy off halfway and applied it like that. then I gradually moved it down. I have a tiny bubble or two that isn't on the screen portion, so I'm not worried about them.

What's the opinion on the Apple Care Plan? I had no idea of the expected battery life, so I asked. They said 12-18 months is typical (I have no idea how true this is). I bought it anyway, so if it does go (which they mentioned the 32GB model has a more expensive battery... yet again, not 100% sure on this), it won't cost me $100. Did I fall for the typical salesman mumbo-jumbo? I realized once they asked me that I should've asked about it on here 🙁.

Ahh I just assumed that these used Text Messaging like the ones that come prepackaged on normal phones (even the one that was on my AT&T Tilt used text messaging).

I'll look into all three of these, thank you 🙂.

So, you need to carry two devices instead of one? And the N-Series doesn't have as nice of a browser and you need a wifi connection for your touch. And the 3G S is much faster than your touch.

Add 35% cashback and ATT Premier monthly discount plan, it's a pretty good set-up.

There are more ATT stores compared to Apple stores.

not everyone has a premier account 🙁 also, bing is only for new customers or people who are adding lines (which i guess this guy is).

I read about the 35% deal but I thought that's for new customers, and I would be considered an upgrade.

The S60 browser on its own (minus touch features) is not bad at all. I think it renders a lot better than some mobile browsers *cough IE Mobile*, although Opera Mini is amazing too. I need a wifi for my touch but I simply tether to my N-series for now. Safari is definitely a great browser too, although the lack of flash... haha =P

I know I do like the idea of 1 device, and although the iPhone has come up in hardware to match some features I have, it still feels like losing some things.

I'll drop by the Apple store before I head to dinner tonight.

Hmmm. $299 iphone - 35% = $194?

K,

Blog post:

Sat: lined up at Apple store. 7 - 8 people in front. Was talking to gf and by the time I realized I was #2 in line. I couldn't do it. 8:40 or something, and I had a dinner reservation at 9. My car was a block away, but I feared not being able to get there in time, so I took off. That and I had second thoughts.

Sun: I decided. I'm getting it for my mom, not for myself. If I happen to fall in love with the 3GS, so be it, if not it's my mom's. If all else fails I'm selling an unlocked one on eBay. The line's a lot longer than Saturday even though I got up early on Sunday to do this. Turns out to be a roughly 30 min wait. The real activation took 5 min though. I did the pre-auth online, but really he just asked for which iPhone I wanted, and confirmed my last 4 digits of social, bam. Done. I spent longer shopping for a case and screen protector.

It's a nice phone. Faster than my iPod 1G for sure and my gf's Touch 2G. Heavier than I imagined, but I suppose that's what a phone + case is supposed to weigh.

Anyway, came back home and gave it to my mom.
