Well ive been on a pilgrimage lately to get a good smart phone. I got Palm Pre on release day. I was so happy at first. The WebOS was awesome and so was the $99 everything plan on sprint. Then the reception issues started. I could stand in one freakn spot and the signal would go from 3-4 bars EVDO, to 1-2 1x, to 1-2 roaming. This made web browsing impossible. Then i went to work and i hardly got a signal at all and people with Palm Treo were almost getting full signal. The Palm Pre definitely has issues that need to be corrected and i was unwilling to wait because thats the main reason i bought the phone was to use it at work and it was unusable and there is no way i was paying $99.00 a month without that. I was kind of bumbed because i loved the WebOS and how it worked. Who knows if the issues were hardware or software related. I think i remember the IPhone having the same issues early on.

Anyways the only viable alternative in my eyes are the IPhone. The only reason i dont' like the iphone is apple snobishley telling people what they want (no multitasking). I'm sure they could do it if they want but apparently they don't want to. To me this is a major omission but one i guess i will have to deal with for the 2 year contract.

Id like to wait but all there is at this point is rumors. Like about a lot of android devices this year.......what carriers and when? Of course this hasn't been anounced. Then there is the whole WMob7/zune phone crazy rumors that keep surfacing. I don't want Wmob 6.5 and microsoft is fighting with itself now on whether they want to compete with the manufactorers that buy the wmob OS from them. I don't think we will see anything exciting from them for at least a year. Then there is WebOS which verizon (the carrier i wish i could go with) and AT&T said they are getting and Sprint has said "NO YOU ARE NOT"!!!!!! Kind of hard to wait at this point I guess i will have to deal with the multitasking dilema of the iphone. Hopefully apple figures out if they don't include multitasking they are going to be overrun and decide to implement it.

Anyways i just ordered a 16GB black 3G S tonight from the apple store. My order says "Will be delivered by June 19th" so who knows maybe i will get it early and not even have to fight the crazy lines. Anyone else preordering it?

Yes but the question is how "mature" is it going to be since it has a new processor/video

I don't think that will be an issue.

Ya you wouldn't think so but you just never know when they are doing a major gutting of the internals.

Its more of an incremental upgrade than an major overhaul, as nick noted, I think it should be fine.

I'm taking the plunge and going from blackberry to the new iphone. The new apple push notification servers is what I was waiting on.

Hello,

I have a questions, My GF and I pre-ordered 2 iPhone 3G S 16GB phones from the Apple store by going to the store and signing up. They didn't take our credit card information, just had us fill out the iPhone sign up that is on their website. We did it at home first and the website told us to go to the Apple Store to sign up. So I'm just wondering if that is how other people did it and if we are 'guaranteed' to get our iPhones. We both work and will not be able to get to the apple store at 7am or anywhere near that time. Will the phones be there waiting for us?

I don't know what you did. They took my Credit Card. Did you tell them to deliver it to you directly or to an apple store. If you told them to deliver it to an apple store maybe you pay there. I don't know because i am having it delivered directly to me.

They didn't ask where we would like it delivered, the guy in the blue shirt told us to come back on the 19th and it would be there. Wasn't very specific and didn't seem very knowledgeable. Our name was put in their system (along with a lot of names) and we ordered a White iPhone 3G S and a Black iPhone 3G S.

I wouldn't mess with it especially since you never paid anything. Just go to apple.com and preorder it there:
http://www.apple.com/iphone/

According to their site it will be delivered by the 19th

Best of luck,

Hmmm when I try online and after giving my SSN, name, email, it says it cannot processes. Then it says after logging in with my Apple ID, it allows me to pick a phone and then tells me that it reserves a iPhone for me but that phones are being sold by first come first served and that they don't guarantee it. 8-(

If you really love WebOS you could wait for firmware upgrade to fix the problems you are having. or try get another Pre to see if the problems go away?

I wanted the non subsidized price on the 16GB. The Apple site only had subsidized prices.

yeah it sucks, doesn't seem that we'll (my GF and I) will be getting the iPhone anytime soon. We went to the store and supposable pre-ordered it, that's what the Apple guy said, but now I don't think he knew what he was talking about. As the pre-ordering we did at Apple was the same thing I did last night on the Apple Site where it said it's 'reserved' and didn't take any credit card information. Oh well guess we waited this long, as we decided not to get the 3G since a new phone was being released in the summer, so we decided to wait since April.

Trying to decide on this.

Give my 16GB 3G to my wife, and jailbreak/unlock her 6GB 3G and sell it on ebay for ~$300 and pay another $300 to get a 16GB 3Gs for myself or just suck it up until next year. I use my phone constantly for games and internet browsing, so I'd utilize the new hardware pretty good.

Input?

i think it seems like you want to go 3GS. Do it. It'll take a bit extra effort though, but if you are used to selling and stuff i would go for it. im only really excited about the hardware improvements. thisll be my first smart phone, im pretty excited!
