At a minimum the same business a US senator has in ANY ally or potential ally of the US. One of the primary duties of the US government, which she is part of, is international relations.

She isn't a NY senator, btw, she's a US senator that represents NY.

NY doesn't need to be represented in Israel by her. what a waste of my tax dollars.

No, it is your vote. But once the votes are counted, our elected officials decide what OUR policies are, and what taxes WE will pay to enable those policies.

I don't agree she's changed her tune (and I am not particularly a fan of Sen. Clinton). She authorized the use of force - it was (and I think you will have a hard time disagreeing with this) the White House and the Pentagon who completely bungled the process of prosecuting the war. She has, throughout, been one of the more hawkish Democrats.

I don't really believe her support of the war, or lack thereof, has anything to do with visiting Israel, which has a unique, historic level of importance at the moment.

I know you personally dislike Hilary (and God knows you're not alone), but you should be grateful IMO - she is probably about as conservative a senator as your state is likely to elect at the moment (she's certainly far more centrist than Chuck Schumer). It's funny - I happen to work with a couple of people who are very highly placed in AIPAC - they are both strong Bush supporters but like Hilary and would probably support her over, say, Bill Frist.

i dont hate clinton......not even the slightest as some other idiot members decided to deduce from what i was asking.

all i wanted to know was who funds senator travel, the gov't or the state they represent.

thats it.

do i think she's gearing up for 2008? yes. is this country ready for a woman leader? i dont think so.

but with what's out there, i wouldnt doubt if she won.

all I know is there needs to be an end point put in place for Iraq.......cause this is just getting ridiculous.

With all due respect, your feigned outrage about this rings hollow. The irony is that you support President Bush, who has spent hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars and thousands of American lives in support of a foreign policy agenda premised on the notion that Israel is our most important ally and her interests are as important as our own in strategic terms, yet you claim to be bothered by the idea that a high-visibility US senator would spend, say $30K (this is admittedly a complete wild-ass guess on my part about the cost of her trip) to visit the same country at a time that it really does look as though WWIII is a real possibility as a result of its conflict with a neighbor.
