Last week I helped my buddy set up his Sapphire 7900 XTX. Uses reference board and stock cooler. Using HWiNFO, we saw it boost out of the box to 3.0-3.3 GHz on the front end and shader clock, and would suck 450W+ of power in 8k gameplay via the GPU Power Maximum sensor. After heating up enough, the card will throttle down to 2.7 GHz at 0.850 mV, but still draw lots of power.

Memory junction temp would peak at 100C, with hotspot temp being around 10C below that.

We tweaked it down to 2.2 GHz a bit below 0.750 mV. Power draw caps out around 270-300W, but performance is barely lost. Memory junction temp now in the low 80's. Biggest issue at the time was the idle power draw, but that is already better.

Performance remains quite solid until around 1.7ish GHz. Then performance drops off a cliff. Overall a great GPU. Didn't get a single crash from all the games we tested.

I'd give it a month or two before prices normalize.

That's what I'm hoping for. The aftermarket prices on the 7900XTX are slowly coming down. You can get a reference one for ~$1150 on eBay. I was tempted to buy but decided against it since time appears to be on my side.

AIB 7900XT (PowerColor's Hellhound) selling for under MSRP here. Still some ways to go down to be really attractive, but there is some hope.

Meanwhile I'm eager to see if the big unified January Adrenaline driver pans out. RX 6000 and older community is getting restless too.

Here's launch day 6900XT in TS graphics:

And here's today's 6900XT in TS graphics:

Huge architectural overhaul with RDNA3 you say? Looks like it.
No chance of it being underutilized by current crop of software you say? Doubt it.

I mean, I won't hold my breath, but I won't be surprised either if early adopters turn into massive wine connoisseurs by the gen's end. 😂

We understand that you want a replacement for your RX 7900 XTX. It is important to know that at the moment we are not able to replace your card as we do not have stock available in our warehouses. We can start the process as soon as the inventory is replenished, but right now we don’t have an estimated date for replenishment.
If you prefer a refund instead, we can process that refund immediately, and we will provide you with a return label so you can send the card back to our warehouse (translation from German AMD suppoert)

That doesn't inspire much confidence. Interesting that they would rather lose the customer by providing an immediate refund, instead of a good discount or some AAA game freebie for their quality control failure.

That sucks for anyone wanting to use stock coolers. But I'll be putting mine under water so . . . yay for me? Someone sell me your "defective" 7900XTX! As long as its reference.

Interestingly if I change RAM timings from default to "Fast Timing" my true idle power usage goes down even further to 19W (240Hz 1440p + 60Hz 1440p). Not bad.

Also suggests there's plenty of room for improvements in the drivers.

Are any of the 7900 XTX available with AIO liquid cooling?

Haven't seen one yet. ASRock has one that ships with a waterblock attached so it can go straight into a custom loop. They are, of course, sold out everywhere.

I am surprised more of them are not being sold. People are getting used AIOs for CPU cooling that only needs to cool 100-200 Watts, while GPU can be double the heat.

Hmm, wonder how long the Liquid Devil will last before it's sold out? Might be nice to get one. Or an ASRock Aqua.

How's the Nitro+ VaporX card? Any known issues with it? Hotspot issue?
None that I can tell. Though I think OBS might have had issues with recording, when I tried to use it, but I think they just need to update the software in time. I used the Radeon Relive instead to make a Doom video.

It’s good to see that Sapphire and PowerColor keep Radeon strong after Asus and especially MSI dropped the ball so hard.
What happened with the MSI and Asus models of this generation? And what about XFX?

MSI doesn't care about Radeon since 6000 gen. No SuprimX models. And now it's even worse, outdated "Gaming X" model and ofc no Suprim X as well. ASUS at least released a fat TUF cooler which is the same of the 4080 or 4090, which is fine, but no Strix yet, which is disappointing.

XFX on the other hand has monetary problems afaik thats why their new model is just a light improvement with no RGB to - i guess - maximize profits.

They're doing fine, released a new model "AQUA" (and refreshes of other lines) this time around which seems to be always outsold, they skipped the Formula though because Radeon isn't competitive for XOC at the top end this time around.

Hmm, looks like there are Taichi and Phantom models available. I see they are both available at Central Computers.

The Taichi is not bad, the Phantom is okay-ish. Plastic instead of metal

I would like ASRock's Aqua model more if they had produced enough for general market availability.
