LMAO sorry Abdul, the correct answer for the 7900XTX sales going ballistic is DeepSeek, not a 50 series paper launch.
I hope the RDNA3 team gets a special bonus after RDNA3 cards go scarce. They deserve it after all the criticism they got over the years.

I actually thought very hard about getting the 7900 XTX right after I read the "Deepseek performing well on it" news but 24GB didn't seem enough to me and I was right. I got accurate answers from Deepseek only after I cranked everything up and that consumed 52GB of system RAM.

My Pulse 7900XTX is aging beautifully. My Red Devil Vega 56 did as well. Sold it for twice what I paid after years of use during the dark times.

A few days ago there were relatively a lot of 7900XTX gpus still around at my local MC, today they aren't listed. Going to check back later to see if they are updating the stock so yeah this might be true.

If AIBs are sitting on unused inventory they'd better be assembling, boxing, and shipping them post haste. Highest ASP cards are selling out or sold out. It's remarkable that every time people start putting a fork in AMD dGPU a non gaming use comes along and bolsters sales. Going back to the first crypto boom.

I feel like this is the right thread to say my 7900XTX is staying. The official reason for its being is for AI related work tasks - testing generating item descriptions, etc. - and it’s great for that I guess and good at everything else.

And… I have it. That’s the biggest thing, atm. It doesn’t hurt that it’s a “nice” one that shouldn’t need repasting, etc.

Will depend on the size of the model the XTX will be fine up to the 32B model.

Anything larger you will need dual gpu's if you want to say in Vram.

Going to system ram is always an option but that tanks performance. you will go from double digits tok/speed in VRAM to single digits if you hit system ram.

It is a scalper's market now.

Market has been crazy since 2018. You never know when prices and availability are going to go bonkers again.

I do believe there are a few 7800XT cards to be found around MSRP. At least when I checked last night. But yeah, in general most of the higher end cards are OOS or being sold by 3rd party sellers with huge markups.

This time AMD has solved their inventory "problem" before launch. 9070 won't have to compete on price with 7000 series.
Everyone keeps saying AMD has to nail the price this time or else. I think that is nonsense. It won't matter what the supply levels are when the new cards hit, or if reviewers say they are overpriced. I predict they sellout lickity split.
Or rather Deepseek solved it for them.
Has to be; the madness has returned

It could be that but I still think it is combination of factors. AMD stopped production some time ago. And there is more demand for a variety of reasons: ML applications, tariff panic, 4000 series drying up, and the 5000 series is still only partially (paper) launched and disappointing outside of the mythical 5090.

I think only the 7900 XTX itself made sense for Deepseek.

This forum should use me for keeping card prices in check. Whatever I buy, it depreciates rock bottom. So here's a hint: buy me a launch 9070 XT 32GB and then watch the GPU makers begging gamers for their money :p

We would, but you had to go buy a 245KF instead of a 9800X3D, didn't you?! All this power entrusted in you, and you turned against us.

We can see the smoke. It's obvious we have a problem, and @gdansk has enumerated the usual suspects already, except for a nightmare scenario where some AI companies have devised ways to make good use of 16GB+ cards. If this happens, all cards with good memory bandwidth will be vacuumed from the market.

Personally I'm seriously considering buying a 9070XT (assuming it's good) or 5070Ti (assuming I can get one) just so that I can avoid another GPU winter as the one from a few years ago. I watched as prices in your country spiked up a while ago, now I'm seeing stock dry up in my corner of the EU as well. There's a delay, but the trend is clear.

Had no choice. Not paying one cent over $400 for an 8-core chip, no matter how good it is in games. Paid $334 for the 245KF. By the way, I've got a cheap B850 mobo on the way from Amazon Germany (if they don't mess up). Hopefully plan to try out an 8500G or a 9700G. 9950X3D could be possible if someone buys my 12700K.

Imagine all these new XTX owners kicking themselves if 9070 XT turns out to be very good at some things compared to the XTX...

If you can buy one. Scalper bots are going to snatch up stock me thinks. Besides, 24GB of vram is nice to have. And not being able to path teh rayz in Nvidia showcases means nothing to me and many other gamers.

one must always fight the FOMO.

For anyone on a XTX there next upgrade is high end UDNA.
That will probably be the next time I look to buy a card. If the market is not distorted.

The buyers market flipping to sellers market has been a cycle since 2018. When nvme got really cheap holidays 2023 I think it was = stocked up. Primo 32GB DDR4 kits started going for $50 used = stocked up. NIB 7900XTX $610? NIB 5800X3D for $240? 5600X3D for $200? NIB 7800X3D for $240? yes please. It seems like our crowd can't get out of the old Ferengi mindset dictating prices always go down on older tech year after year after year. Because tech depreciates so fast. Not anymore you mad lads. They fail to pull the trigger and don't buy that boxed 5700X3D when it's $180, or 7800X3D when its $330. 7900XT for just over $600, and XTX for $750. Only to have the prices spike and those deals never come back. My gut brain tells me when to buy, and so far it's batting a 1000.

Moral of the story: Don't get settled in ever again. Things have been unpredictable for 7 years, what makes you think the chaos is going to end? There is only the calm between storms.

Reading everyone's magic 8 ball tell them what price the new 9 series has to be to not collect dust has me SMDH. The market has gone full derp again. Just as with the stock market, all of that reason and logic means nothing when fear and greed are the driving forces.
