After the catastrophe, there is likely no constant energy source (ie, no flowing electricity). I don't think we are at that point yet in the world where we can engineer technology off salvaged parts into a device that has its own energy source!

Good thing i have a generator and parts to build a wind turbine and a small amount of solar to charge batteries. I really think it would be pretty easy to find ways to produce electricity. Such as car alternators and a bike. I doubt the batteries at the auto parts stores will be a hot item for most places.

And I know how to wire up a three phase converter from a spare motor, I can power a bridgeport off the genset. With a bridgeport and a lathe and some metal we can make most anything.
