Yeah, it was kind of a crummy game, but I was glad to see AP pass 10k yards. Can't believe the yards he can still put up with a nonexistent O-line and zero passing game.
Looking forward to Hawks/Aints tonight.
on 2nd down they converted for a first down but it was close, and they moved the chains.
then on first down, they threw a 30yd pass or so and fred davis dropped it.
then all of a sudden the refs decided it wasn't a first down the prior play, so instead of it being 2nd and 1, it was 4th and 1.
and that is when garcon had it and they stripped it from him for the turnover that cost them the game.
That's so weird. I thought once the next play started, basically all decisions made by the officials and the ability to challenge them was locked in and over with. Does this mean the officials can back track whenever they damn well please?
That's what I gathered from it. I doubt there is precedent before last night's game that they ever gone back and reversed a down after the ball is snapped, after having not made a call prior to that snap.
Totally insane.
These last several weeks have truly been worse than the replacement refs last season.

That is a big problem. In situations where a play is suspect to be reviewed, if they run another play before the game is stopped, the play is no longer reviewable. I think the head ref goofed and should have just let it go as an incorrect spot, rather than cause the Redskins to basically throw away a play. The head official went on record saying stopping the play to reset the chains would have given Washington an unfair advantage, yet letting them think they had a first down and call a first down play doesn't somehow put them at a large disadvantage?
Yeah, thankfully this time it only affected a terrible team playing a mediocre team and didn't impact the playoffs or any 2013 season relevant team. "Playing for pride" is a non-factor when you're already in the dregs of the league standings and 3-9 vs. 4-8 doesn't mean squat. It even has minimal impact to next year's draft since WAS already traded away their 2014 #1 pick in the RG3 trade. Sucks to be the 'Skins in this scenario, but OTOH I'm glad it was them rather than tonight's Saints-Seahawks game.
Yeha?! Well say that when it is YOUR team! 🙁
(actually, I totally agree with you. Saints vs Seahawks would have been a total shit storm. This is all a rather perfect cap on the Redskins and their season)
Bring back the replacement refs!!!
Peyton throws in the dirt while in the box, no calls. Alex throws outside of the box, flagged for intentional grounding. One of the many examples.

Smith has no history of throwing consistent deep balls. The last 3 seasons, though, he has a history of being very accurate and smart. He's been a very good QB.
I think the majority of football fans have succumbed to a common number of delusions, the largest one, imo, is that Drew Brees has always been good--therefore SD was STUPID to trade him.
No one seems to remember how goddamn awful Brees was those first 3 or 4 seasons with SD, and only when Rivers showed up, Brees turned it on and raised his market value. The Chargers were a shit team in those days, obviously, but got a lot from the Rivers/Eli deal (used those picks for Merriman and, I think, Vincent Jackson?).
That aside, no one wanted to see Brees stick around. He had one--maybe it was two good seasons, before going to NO. Also, this turnaround coincides with Shottenheimer. Much like Alex Smith turning it around when new coaching blood shows up. No, I'm not comparing Smith to Brees, just that it's easy for people to hold on to past performance despite recent contrary evidence in very different situations, or conveniently erase past performance for whatever reason.
I'm going Seahawks but going to be a really tough win

This. Something like 24-21 or 27-21.
