Who bought/is buying a Radeon RX 470 or RX 460?

An RX 460 is $10 more than a 950 over here. For medium-ish 1080p gaming, would it be sufficient? An R9 380 is an additional $10. I was thinking of spending a pile more but eh this launch is underwhelming and overpriced.

r9 380 is a no brainer. The fact that RX460 is only $20 cheaper shows how much fail of a card that is.

I would just wait for the 470 to become more easily available and prices to stabilize. To me it is a no-brainer over the 460 unless you absolutely have to have a card with no six pin.

Worked on undervolting / overclocking the Sapphire Radeon RX 470 Platinum OC tonight. Best results I could achieve in the 3DMark Fire Strike Stress Test are below. Undervolting helped boost frequency by keeping power consumption and temperatures in check. Power limit of +10 seemed to work best when undervolting. Higher power limits would cause the card to become temperature limited within a few minutes and cause the frequency to decrease slightly as a result.

I chose 3500 RPM as the OC fan speed as noise is still tolerable for me at this level, but too annoying at higher RPMs.

Average stock frequency: 1004 MHz
Average OC frequency: 1162 MHz (15.7% increase)

Average stock FPS: 47.9
Average OC FPS: 54.7 (14.1% increase)

Here are the stock settings on my SAPPHIRE NITRO+ Radeon RX 470 100407NT+8GOCL. It's the only 470 that comes with the memory running at 2000 MHz out of the box.

And what I decided on when tweaking and testing. It's not shown, but I went up to 2020 MHz on the memory, because beyond that I started losing FPS.

1080 blows any card away .....25 percent faster then 980 GTX Ti or no

This thread is about AMD 470 and 460 not an Nvidia 1080.

I just bought a 4GB 460 off of Jet.com. I need a GPU with a newer decode engine next year that can hook up to my 4K kitchen setup, but I decided to get the 4GB model (and the 460 overall over a GTX 950) because I plan to mine on it for a few months to cut down some of the overall costs before it gets used for what I bought it for.

Kinda excited to compare the MadVR performance on it vs the 480.

And I bought a 470 today too after looking at some mining profitability calculators and realizing it's now or never for getting GPUs that pay for themselves. I considered Nvidia to have fun mining with Pascal but the prices for the 1060s have gone up somewhat- 3GB models with two fans often have a $20-30 premium.

It was between the Devil and MSI's 470 and so picked the devil because I am a sucker for a backplate. Can't wait to get it and compare it in MadVR and maybe try out their Linux decoding.

Damn Poofy, with all the money you make buying tons of AMD cards one wonders if AMD might better not sell their GPUs and just run a mining farm operation.

Nah you have to be nimble with mining or you risk getting hosed, plus AMD has a penchant for missteps. They would still try to mine bitcoin or something stupid knowing them.

I am not really trying to make a profit myself, I am trying to get free or near free graphics cards. Out of my Polarises the 480 will be the only one to make me money outright because I got it so early and I forced it to mine back when it was more profitable to do so. But I was going to buy a 460 and a 470 within the next year and a half for my primary hobby of HTPCs and video playback (and my 1080p and 4K HTPCs respectively), so I decided to move those purchases up some so that way mining can mitigate the cost.

I will admit, I kinda dislike this Powercolor Devil card. It's gaudy and looks kinda old school in a bad way, and the fans are loud. I guess I have gotten spoiled by XFX and EVGA cards over the years.
