The Catholics around the world will be happy and celebrate a new Pope.

The haters on the other hand will continue to hate the Pope/Catholic Church.

Both of which are seen in this thread.

More the hypocrisy people hate

I wonder if he chose it to affiliate himself with Saint Francis - who was a VERY VERY VERY dedicated Christain.

In a revolutionary departure for the Catholic Church, to prove that they recognize and embrace the need for dramatic reform, the new pope is an old white guy ... from the Western Hemisphere!

To jab you for being a complete dick in this thread.

I apologize in advance for pointing out that your desire to jab dicks means you two have more in common than you think.

again I am sorry its was just right there and I am lacking impulse control today.

Ratzinger repeatedly stated he would like to retire to his house in the Bavarian village of Pentling near Regensburg and dedicate himself to writing books.

At the conclave, "it was, if not Ratzinger, who? And as they came to know him, the question became, why not Ratzinger?"[46]

On 19 April 2005, Ratzinger was elected on the second day after four ballots.[46] Ratzinger had hoped to retire peacefully and said that "At a certain point, I prayed to God 'please don't do this to me'...Evidently, this time He didn't listen to me."

LOL. I did not know that about Benedict.

I am very curious as to why he selected Francis. Saint Francis was very big on poverty and felt the holiest of people could only come from being impoverished - that material wealth made you feel God was not as important.

I wonder if this marks the beginning of the Catholic Church reducing its material wealth?

is he the first ever Jesuit Pope? I can't recall any others.

interesting that he's so conservative, usually they're the more liberal branch of the church.

Is it not true that a vast majority of the abuse was of a homosexual nature?

You do realize there's a vast difference between pedophilia and homosexuality. Pedophiles that target same sex are usually attracted sexually to adults of the opposite sex.

There seems to be good word on the man - he refused to live in the elaborate home reserved for his position and instead lived in a small apartment. He refused a chauffeur and took the bus.

I think the Cardinals needed to focus less on a new Pope and instead on upgrading the defensive line.
