And I'm sorry, but considering my ancestors had nothing to do with any slavery in America, should I pay for the injustices done to Blacks when they (my ancestors) weren't even in the country? And what happens after the government pays out that money? People go crying for even greater reparations.

In theory, Affirmative Action is a brilliant thing IF it was based on economics. But it's based on race, and it does promote racism. You think its very encouraging for a white male to apply to a medical school knowing he may very well get rejected with his 3.7GPA so a black person can get into the college with a 2.5? Now if it was different, and this black person had maybe a 3.2 GPA, was working to help support his family, and has a decent background, vs. your stereotypical rich white kid, I have no problem with the 3.2 GPA person getting in over the 3.7. Neither would I have a problem if that person was Spanish, Asian, etc. But if he's getting into the school JUST BECAUSE hes black, latin, asian, etc, I most certainly do have a problem with that.

As far as blacks the entire group suffers still today the stigma and discrimmination of being black. Hell just look at classys POV and see why. I forgot to address this. First of all any accedited medical school in the US has higher admmision standards than a 2.5. Next is you'all have never shown me proof this practice is accepted and implemented but you do keep saying it. I can believe a black with a 3.5 vs a white with the 3.7 perhaps they would lean the blacks way to address the huge medical Dr shortage in black communites but your numbers are way disproportionate to reality. A whole GPA..Uh huh. Also they consider other factors like economic backgroud and EXCURR activites ect. Actually GPA and MCAT scores are way overrated. It's personality, the benefit you can make, time you can serve in addition to GPA and MCAT...I know subjectivity is infuriating to you but that's the way it's done and should be. You judge peoples performance based on effort and compare it with capabity in the real world to make an assesment of them.

The equal achievement or whatever is not working out too well here in Texas though. UT's enrollment is the highest it's ever been, and expected to increase further.

Where I work, about ten years ago. the upper management noticed that all management were white guys and these white guys usually hired and promoted white guys. Yes they did hire some women and "minorities" but no matter how good these people were for some reason they did not go very far in the company. The reason I wrote "minorities" is because whites guys are a minority so the organization did not reflect the US population. Ten years later, the organization more reflects the make up of the US and the company is, in terms of profits, more successful.

Just open your eyes and flip though forbes see if it's reprentative of america. All races and women are very much underrepresented the higher you go up the pole. What causing this? Are white males somehow superior or is it a institutional racism and sexism that needs addressing? AA has at least got some in the door to show thier mettle and now we are seeing progress a little. edit: Let me revise that statement. I don't think they should be paid the huge ammount that they got paid. Only something similar along the lines that those hit by a natural disaster get paid in aid by the government.

400 Years:Q considering that the America wasn't even inhabited by europeans 400 years ago (the mayflower arrived in 1620) I think you may be a little off in your math.

Reperations are not legal as you can not hold someone responsible for commiting a LEGAL ACT by changing the law and when they comply charge them for commiting that crime BEFORE IT WAS ILLEGAL. We have a document called the constitution and in section 9 it reads "No bill of attainder or ex post facto Law shall be passed".

This would be like raising the minimum wage and then sueing everyone who was paying the minimum wage before it got raised. It is my belief that slavery is a black Eye that this country had but taking away the rights of other's will never right the wrong.

All I have to say is that when I was 18 I didn't get a job because I wasn't Hispanic, Black or Female... And I was told so!!! The job placement sheet stated that the applicant HAD to be a minority...
