I agree with him on quotas, but coming from a guy who had open doors everywhere because of his daddy, this sounds disengenious.

Well its been a been a white man's world, so I guess you guys just need more of the world. I am not surprised. This just rings out the true sentiments that lie in the very heart of the Republican Party and the whites who follow them. What I find sad is he waited till Dr King's birthday to announce this bs. He's been in office how long? He could have said this on 364 other days. But just like in the days of Lynching when they hung us out on trees so all could see, he picks the most notable day of the most notable black man in our modern history. Sometimes, days like this make me wish there was an all out race war so we could just settle this once and for all.

Why, because some disagree with AA? You know who else wish for what you'd wish? The same Crackers that you claim to hate

It has nothing to do with racial differences (or at least it shouldn't), it has to do with doing away with them.

AA promotes racism.

while affirmative action (AA) is a good thing when done right, we no doubt live in an imperfect world where bias can rear its ugly head where there are no contraints. Affirmative has been used and abused, but it has also helped millions of under-privileged individuals get the education they need to become better members of society. I think that there should be a better system than AA, or we'll reverse to the past where racism was rampant. Now, it'll be institutionalized and veiled.

The thing is, AA when based on race is BAD. AA when based on economic situation can be GOOD. Help out that high schooler who had to work 40 hours a week to help support their family because their parents are drug addicts, and still managed to get decent enough grades in HS. But don't base it on race.

AA based on your economic situation might very well help out more blacks because they are poorer than the rest of the population on average, but that is fine then because you aren't basing it on the color of their skin.

AA promotes racism.[/quote]

Hows that? Can you explain this? The only thing I see AA do is diversify the workplace, school and peoples attitudes about race the last 30 years.

Datalink, you may be right. But remember this post about the U. of Chicago study? AA has been about race and it will always be about race. Race, as in racism, is rampant. It has taken different forms. That's why AA was created. You can find diplomatic terms to explain AA but that was its raison d'etre (sic?)--Racism.

Race has nothing to do with diversity. Ethnicity makes diversity.

AA promotes racism because it is a policy based on race, thus is inherently racist.

edit: In fact, I don't even believe in race really. From a genetic point of view, there is no ground for belief in it. A "black" person can have more, gentically, in common with a "white" person than someone from Africa.

You're kidding right? You don't see how giving someone less qualified a job would make the more qualified person angry that the first one got the job because of his/her race?

if Martin Luther King Jr. were alive today he would be against AA. he had a dream where upon people would be judged by the content of their character, NOT the color of their skin!!

Whites never excluded from anything as far as I know blacks have been and continue to be. Even if they have quotas (bu hey don't) a white can still get into medical school. And I never seen a case as you discribe and don't believe they exist without ending up in court for reverse discrimmination since whites have all the lawyers to fight this. AA is equal opportunity and only requires you to interview qualified applicants.

It's all about white crybabies now have to compete with the minorities instead of using them as slaves or second class citizens, plus a little stealing of your women which has you'all screaming this anti AA bullcrap. Not some reverse discrimminatioin stuff. But call it what you want.

It has nothing to do with being crybabies, at least for me. A policy based on race is inherently racist by definition. A FAR better policy, in my opinion, would be based on economic situation. The result would still help out blacks who need it (and whites and asians etc.), but it wouldn't be a racist policy.

josphII, you don't know whether MLK would be against AA, so please STFU. It's not healthy to speculate or talk about people who shoes you've never walked in.
