White Bread

I'm not sure that I've ever eaten white bread. My mom would never buy it as a child, and it doesn't really look appealing any more. Potato bread is indeed awesome, however.

Grew up with white, but switched to wheat about 5 years ago. Can't stand white bread anymore. Tastes terrible.

White and wheat bread tastes the same to me...at least the stuff you buy in the stores.

Big difference though in terms of fresh baked bread, and there I prefer whole wheat.

Rye is evil stuff, makes me want to throw-up...
Otherwise wheat and white are okay, depending on what I'm eating.
I tend to prefer to taste whats on the bread and not the bread itself. 😛

When it comes to freshly baked bread. I pretty much like them all.
Sliced and bought at the grocery? Potato bread. It keeps very well at my place.

You eat it too fast, or it goes bad? If the latter, I haven't had that problem at all. It keeps very well for me, and never gets moldy. If by some chance I have a loaf longer than a week, I use it for toasty type things. It's still /ok/ to eat "raw", but I'd rather just get a fresh loaf for that. I've made grilled cheese with rye that expired a couple months previous(lost in the back of fridge), and it was still great for that purpose.

I get the stuff from trader joes and it lasts maybe about a week max before it goes off. Maybe Ive just had bad luck with it, lol

white bread and "wheat" bread are all made from WHEAT! you like the "wheat" bread better because of the sugar in it.

I'm not sure white bread is bread, is it?

but does make a for a nice grilled cheese.

...rye is probably better though.

:hmm:

rye + Gruyere grilled cheese? anyone?

I had rye with Cabot seriously sharp cheddar tonight with Campbells tomato soup. Easy and delicious :^) Walmart sell ginormous blocks of the Cheddar cheese for $8 around here. It's a great price for a workhorse cheese that can be used for a lot of things.

bread does quite well in the fridge. also great in the freezer for long term.

I've never had much luck with the freezer. We used to pick up an extra loaf and toss it in the freezer until we needed it, but it was never the same as a fresh loaf. It loses it's soft, fresh texture, and becomes a bit firm. At least it always has in my experience so now we just buy bread as we need it instead of freezing.

Light rye with caraway is like crack, seriously. I'm damn addicted to it & it's my kryptonite. Nothing beats corned beef or tuna or grilled cheese or pastrami or a tongue sandwich on seeded rye....

Pumpernickel [real pumpernickel, not dark rye] is next best, then Miami onion rolls, then bulkie rolls.

For subs, nothing beats a fresh crisp French bread.

For a lox & cream cheese shmear, can't get any better than on a toasted onion bagel.

PB&J is best on whole wheat, fluffernutter on white.

Wouldn't have to work out so hard if I could give up my bread addiction.

I was going to make a sandwich until I found out that I only had a loaf of white bread. Shit tastes nasty since I started eating Whole Wheat a few years ago. It has a weird sour/salty taste ( No my bread isn't expired) that makes it disgusting.

Anyone still eat white bread?

Absolutely!

If you think there is some kind of "healthy low GI" form of bread, there isn't.

White bread or whole weat will have almost identical insulin curves after ingestion, now what do you eat with that, something with protein and fat that slows it down? Well there you go, if you don't eat it alone, it really doesn't matter.

However.... fibers do make your belly work, right? Heh, actually you'll be hungrier sooner the more fibers you eat, it's not fucking healthy at all, not in any way except MAYBE if you are constipated and when you are, it won't help much either.

All it will do is bloat your belly and make you gassy.
