Cornell is a bitch from everything ive heard. cutthroat to all hell.

im at purdue, not for engineering, but watching other engineers do their sh1t is amazing. engr 106 is the biggest and toughest class here its absolutely insane for just about everyone.

but i would surely pick cornell.

Got rejected at Stanford :(

no biggie though

For the people who went to Cornell, is it really as cut-throat as people describe it?

I obviously don't go to Cornell, but the stories I've heard suggest that it is. In various engineering competitions that both VT and Cornell participate in, the Cornell teams seem to spend a good bit of time yelling at each other and walking around looking ready to snap. I would think that the same mentality probably exists in the classroom as well.

But like I said, the best indication is always to visit the campus and talk to people in person who are going to school there, and sit in on a class if you get a chance to. Just walking around campus, you get an idea pretty quickly about what life is like.

It's not cutthroat if you are pulling your weight. Noone wants a slacker as a project partner though.

My old IT manager was from Cornell. He was a bumbling idiot who didn't know anything. This guy got a Masters in Internet Engineering for goodness sakes. What a moron.

Rankings don't mean anything. I got into Purdue with a full ride merit scholarship, but I dont think anyone would tell me to go there over Cornell.

Purdue has (or at least had) some really good research in semiconductors, you should look into that if that's what you're interested in.

Yeah, I really wouldn't dismiss Purdue so quickly.

I'd probably pick Purdue since it's free. Purdue is a pretty darn good school, especially for engineering.
I'd definately pick Purdue over Duke or Northwestern.
