Have both, got good deals on both. But, can only afford one (only have one desktop anyway...). I currently spend my time in the following games:

Everquest2
CounterStrike: Source
BF:1942/Desert Combat

And there is the potential that I'll end up playing these:

City of Heroes (again, when CoV is released)
World of Warcraft

The x800 XT is a Visiontek, and runs nicely at 530/1150. Here are the rest of my components:

A64 3200+ (754)
MSI K8N Neo
2x512mb PDP PC3200
SATA HD, DVD+/-RW
Audigy2 ZS
Dell 2001FP

The majority of the games I play are D3D, which as I understand, the x800 excels at. But I can't help but look at the beast that is the Ultra and want to put it in my machine.....

I would keep the Ultra. I realize that nothing is future proof but the 6800U is more future-proof than the X800XT. Also remember with the Geforce you get SM3.0, HDR, VPU etc...

Not that the Radeon is a bad card by anymeans it is very fast. Faster than the Ultra in some cases.

I would say they are dead even, however the 6800U has more features.

I'm not sure about it, 6800U has more features and higher precision, X800XT is as fast and faster with DX9... Is pretty hard, both are very very good cards with strenghs going to both sides...

You'll see a noticable difference in CS:Source but I'm not sure about the other games. I personally went with the X800 over the 6800 series. Of course, I was comparing an oced 6800GT to a X800XT PE. The differences in most games that I play wasn't too big.

I'd sell whichever you think will bring in the most cash to fund your next adventure. Performance wise they are equally outstanding.

Yeah, this sounds best.

That's what I was thinking. Only obvious plus to me is the single-slot design on the x800. If the 6800 had a "normal" single-slot backplate, it'd be moot.

Well, the 6800 is still sealed, so I think I'm just going to have to resist temptation and sell that one.

Everquest2
CounterStrike: Source
BF:1942/Desert Combat

All three run best on the X800 from what I have seen. I'd stick with the XT, ubless you have a preference for drivers cause both ared are very close.

Visiontek sucks.

Based on what?

Bjorn gave it 9/10.

As I already mentioned, there isn't much exciting about the XTASY X800 XT to point out. It is just the ATi reference design.

In the end, VisionTek has an admirable product here and it backs it up with w Lifetime Warranty ? something many of their competitors can?t hang with. We?ve always appreciated their stance on bringing performance to the masses and have zero reservations whatsoever in recommending this card to anyone

umm no. as xbitlabs showed in their benchmark of source. 6800(s) faired better the majority of the time against the x800 series.

The x800xt PE is the fastest card out right now, you just have to be lucky to find one.

That is a pretty biased statement. Do you have anything to back up your claims? Last time i checked they were dead even with the nod going towards the X800XT(PE) in some cases.

Meh. I have an X800 XT PE, I would be just as happy with a 6800U. Those cards both perform at a level where you're not going to notice the difference in use in the vast majority of games.

(which is not to say the XT PE is not a damn nice card, like it a lot)
