Which state in America is the most overrated/underrated?

I again think Michigan is underrated by most people.

Of the states I've been to I definitely think some parts of the deep south are overrated. Georgia and Mississippi come to mind. Sure there is plenty of things to do but definitely an undercurrent of racism and ignorance.

South Carolina I'm really split on. Some outstanding areas and some very hickish areas. North Carolina I feel the same way about it as well.

The UP is great, the rest of MI is meh.

NC has the Outer Banks and the Blue Ridge/Smoky Mtns. If there was ever a need for plate tectonics it is to subduct the 300 miles of rednecks and trailer trash separating these two beauty spots.

I agree 100% with you on North Carolina

I disagree on Michigan. The U.P is great. But I definitely think.other parts of the state are great. Traverse City, Sleeping Bear, Grand Haven, Ludington, pretty much the whole west side of the state is pretty awesome. Big fan of Ann Arbor as well.

Yeh, I think about 4 months out of the year (June, July, August, Sept) the Traverse Bay area is probably one of the most underrated parts of the US. Reasonable temps, can't swing a dead cat without hitting some decent sized lake, and just piles of things to do. Not sure I'd really want to be up there through the dead of winter, but for a lazy summer place to crash it seems like it would be awesome.

How is Oklahoma overrated? I don't know of anyone who rates it highly, or interesting, or anything really. And I live here.

Much like Arizona, there is a huge gap between the 'haves' and 'have nots.' Therefore it's overrated by the 'haves' which is the only voice that's heard. I used to live in Tulsa and the only place I've ever been that was worse is Joplin, MS. I've lived in every State west of the Mississippi and a few east of.

From the states I visited

Overrated: California (LA, San Francisco, and San Diego... nothing really stood out to me when visiting).

Underrated: South Carolina (Charleston was beautiful, reminds me of a quaint European city).

Overrated: Arizona (even by the people who underrate it), Oklahoma, Colorado
Underrated: Minnesota, Utah, So. Dak., No. Dak.

I didnt realize people rate az high. I love the winters but, July and August suck.
On the other hand i do not care for Minnesota. Overly cold in the winter and a bit to many bugs and humidity in the summer. In fact i am there now for one more week. Minn is ovetrated 😀

The 'haves' who overrate Arizona don't live here in the summer months. Minnesota is an amazing place to visit. There are so many unique things to see and do all within a fairly small area. You just can't live there. 🙂

most underrated: California and NY
most overrated: California and NY
states that people who dont live there care way too much about: California and NY
lol this.
Everyone around the world loves them too much, many americans from everywhere hate them, some love them, some lash out on california because it's a failed state etc.
basically everyone is too emotionally involved to have a straight opinion.

I'm enjoying new mexico; But I know that the Mexican million-man shit-hole i'm from in taxes is rated in the top 10 most impoverished and most ignorant places in the US.

San Diego is the place i'd like to be, with diminishing but sustained interest going up the left coast.

Baring that i'm making a concerted effort to move to Melbourne, Sidney, Adelaide or around Auckland.

After that there are a lot of fine places through-out the US.

Shouldn't New York City count as its own country? Or at least its own state. Every time I leave NYC I feel like I should bring my passport.

Definitely California. I used to live there. While there is some great scenery in certain parts of California they are not the majority of the state. The weather is nice. The biggest problem is Californians are so fucking stupid they have ruined the whole state with their politics and the idiot government they continue to elect.

This applies to Arizona so well. If we could just get 90% of population to move somewhere else, including all the natives, Arizona would be paradise.

The biggest problem with Arizona is Californians that have moved there to escape the hell hole they created with their politics only to bring those same politics with them....to ruin another place. This is why I say Californians are fucking stupid.

Seconded. I would also add the local environment and river systems. It really is beautiful down here.

Too bad the majority of the places resembling cities there are disgusting cesspools, and then there's the people... It's not really all that beautiful there either... There's much more beautiful places in Florida, Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey (there's nice countryside in the northwest)... just about anywhere else I've gone actually except maybe Missouri and Mississippi.
