So you're saying that New Jersey is the garbage dump of NY and PA, but that you shouldn't hold that against it?

Jersey sucks. However, its not really overrated, because everyone (outside of Jersey anyway) knows this.

Because 1/1000000 of the state has refineries on it, the rest should be ignored? Pretty much every state is screwed then.

Yea...the places that don't have refineries have Camden, Trenton, and Newark. Real beautiful stuff. Hell, even your NFL teams refuse to be named after the state.

CA or HI definitely overrated

CO underrated

people think CO is under a snow storm 24/7 but we have bad ass warm winters in the burbs, and plenty of snow to ski in the winter.

people think cali/hi are the most bad ass places to live, but cali is expensive and hawaii is pretty trashy and dirty if you arent in waikiki.

Underrated: Minnesota
Overrated: California

Grew up in MN, also have lived in PA, NY, MA, and KS. Moved to CA 8 months ago, tis really pretty lame. Money Mag also has 5 out of the top 25 cities to live in in MN.

I definitely think Michigan is underrated by people. I think they hear Michigan and think Detroit and thats the end of the thought process.

They forget all the beaches we have in the summer, the vineyards, the fruit growing regions, the UP, Mackinac etc etc. Really is a beautiful state, and if you like winter time activities we have those too.

Not to mention you can drive 600+ miles and still be in the same state. About 620 miles from Temperance, MI to Copper Harbor, MI. It's only 580 miles from Temperance, MI to New York City.

I was born in NJ, love the northeast, especially NYC, love Chicago... but I have to be honest, Texas is the best damn state in the US you rat ass punk bitches.

Georgia is the most overrated, who gives a fuck about Atlanta, seriously stfu.
Texas is the underrated envied new California that everyone loves to hate nowadays.

georgia isn't overrated at all....no one gives a flying fuck about it in the first place.

But there's a difference between living in Georgia and fucking hearing how it's the best place on earth when most of its inhabitants are ignorant thieving drunken substance abusing hypocritical bible thumping christians, not to mention racist as fuck, that've never been anywhere other than Florida or Alabama, that think Atlanta is actually the best thing since sliced bread since it's their only impression of what a real city is if you can call Atlanta a real urban environment other than the 5 mile strip from downtown to midtown. To the guy complaining about Texas, shit, try living in Georgia... you'll appreciate Texas then.

Underrated: Washington. I grew up here, I've lived in every corner of the state and have traveled the world, but there is still so much I want to do.

I think SLC/Utah is a close second. A lot of variety in the stuff you can do from there. And probably the closest major metro area to prime skiing. Housing prices are great but the government sucks.

Overrated: California has become inflated and overpopulated, but I couldn't say its overrated. It is certainly a great state with tons to offer, there is a reason a lot of people live there. I think for a lot of us it just isn't worth the cost. But I'd admit if we were all starting from zero California would be at the top of my list of places to settle down.

I think New York. I mean all it really has going for it is that a lot of people live there. If you think being where a lot of other people are for the sake of a lot of other people being there is what makes you happy, by all means move to New York City.

Umm you do NOT have warm winters. You live in CO, warm winter to you is probably 32*F.

LOOL.

But the sun shines, and damn it feels good with that sun in the winter. Its not like up north where it doesn't warm up between winter storms. For instance a few weeks ago it was -10 below for the high on monday. and was 60 degrees by wednesday. Tell me that isn't bad ass.

Funny as s..t!!!!

I always love how people who know nothing about CO make the most asinine comments about it in a horribly pathetic and smug way. The average temperature in Winter in the front range (Denver) is a mild 48 degrees or so. Sure it can be cold but it's not cold all winter like you people assume. Being 65 to 80 degrees year round like in SoCal is something I personally hate! I wasn't a fan of the 72 degree thanksgiving I attended in San Diego last year, but plenty of people love it. It's always ammusing how people from Southern CA act like their climate is mild and anything that isn't the same is s..t!! Actually L.A. and San Diego, etc. have a tropical climate that is not mild, and have no seasons whatsoever. Stop acting like this is the basis for determining a climate elswhere. You know nothing!! Cheers!

I would say that Colorado is neither overrated nor underrated. I don't really care to begin with, Colorado isn't perfect either.

Anyway I'd say that many states are overrated, but California, Washington State, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts top this list. This isn't a bad thing just my opinion so please don't s..t your pants people!!!!!

Underrated states are definitely Missouri, South Dakota, and Mississippi. Lot's to see and do in these states without spending a fortune!

Dear people of America, please leave the overrated state of California, and if you have never been to California, do not come here, ever.

Also, keep on rating your state much higher than California, because your state is THAT freaking awesome. Stay there. Thank you.

Oh, and keep your shitty weather that you call "seasons".

Which state in America is the most overrated/underrated?

It annoys me when politicians blow smoke up each other's ass when they say "The great state of...". We all know some of these states aren't great by any means. But, considering I've only lived in New York and Texas, I was wondering if I was missing out on anything out there. Any hiddgen gems?

So how do you personally compare New York and Texas?

I think Texas is the most dangerous to the well being of the U.S.

The most pompous asses seem to come from there.

IMO NYC and large cities in general are overrated. You don't need to live in a city of 10,000,000 to get the benefits of urban living. You just need enough critical mass so that you can have a little bit of everything.

CA is underrated because everyone thinks it sucks when it's still much better off than most states that get a pass because they're just allowed to be the cesspools that they are.

I think Maryland is pretty underrated too. Maybe, it's because I was living in Alabama for three years before coming here. People piss and moan about this state, but in comparison to other places I've lived this state is amazing. I especially find complaints about the heat funny having lived in Florida 14 years... at least this state has 4 seasons vs 3 seasons of summer and a fall.

I again think Michigan is underrated by most people.

Of the states I've been to I definitely think some parts of the deep south are overrated. Georgia and Mississippi come to mind. Sure there is plenty of things to do but definitely an undercurrent of racism and ignorance.

South Carolina I'm really split on. Some outstanding areas and some very hickish areas. North Carolina I feel the same way about it as well.
