Actual human interaction, talking to each other, watching visual cues, body language. It's pretty icky when you think about it
It's the learning curve that kills you. Going from hermit monk to social gadfly is not for the weak. You need to take a perverse joy in repeatedly crashing and burning. Mmm, fire. Smells like bacon. Ouch. Ouch.

But somewhere between the grievous faux pas you gradually learn to flick the butterfly knife of social interaction like someone who just maybe has a clue. You have to bask in the glory of those moments.

It's only going to get more rare.

The more I look around in life - the more I realize that having those social skills = HEAVY determination your paygrade in life.

Yep. Even if you're not in a position where those skills are needed or necessary, people do take notice and it affects your potential greatly.

Is it weird that I kinda miss spidey07's pro Comcast trolling?

Yeah. I particularly enjoyed his " the microwaves within microwave ovens are completely safe for you because microwaves exist naturally all around us" argument that, strangely, he used in his Comcast posts for some reason.

I miss Anand. But, what I miss most, is the culture that existed here at the time I joined. Which is ironic, in that some were already complaining about how us n00bs were ruining the place. Also need to take some time and look up who the Mormom brothers were. No one seems to remember their user names. One of them had Seth in it, perhaps. NSF4 was a cool guy; he was involved in the news site spinoff right?

And I am fairly certain Texmaster came back. Me thinks John Connor is still here as well, he is mental about this place.

Hell, I was so into this place bitd, I let some of you add me on IM. First e-friends I ever had. Ya'll took me viginity. I have met a few of you IRL too. Sorry I stopped responding to phone calls and other forms of communication. I keep a small monkey-sphere, and lack the energy to maintain relationships.

On that note: If you are a long time member, and I have never PM'd you, it is because I suck. There are MANY of you I have wanted to hit up and ask questions, or say something nice to. Or lend emotional support, or just say howdy. And I always think of a reason it would be a bad idea.

And I will end this post with this: None of you are as smart or cool as Harvey. That guy is the best thing that ever happened to these forums. What he did in the background, and the efforts he exerted. Cheers Harvey! :beercheers:

Almost makes me sad I came out of hiding and started posting in late 2017 (I think) instead of the mid-2000s. Lots of great members have come and gone, and the forums just aren't the same, though this place is still pretty great.

I dunno, Connor had a specific posting style that I'm not sure he was capable of hiding (based on his alt activity). But maybe he has a surprise up his sleeve.

I can identify regarding monkey-sphere size.

No question about it ... this place is a shadow of what it once was. Downward spiral started with the infamous "Change of culture" IMO.

*(note I joined in 2000 but my account got borked in early 2003 somehow)

Anand's articles were great, but he never really posted much here.

We all knew that something was up with him that time he posted a rather unconvicing article in favor of non-removable batteries in smartphones, though. It smelled like an Apple shill piece... little did we know that he would soon be working for them. That must have been part of his "demo reel" for Apple 🙂

And salt! At one point, the man got curiously enamored with putting huge amounts of salt on . . . everything.

I miss him because I made beaucoup bucks off of him with bets in P&N. I knew he was deluded enough to believe his idiot forecasts yet also honest enough to pay off when he lost.

He was one odd bunny, with all his fears and his guns. I hope I never have to read that he blew away some poor lost kid come to his door at night innocently looking for help because he thought some Swat Team of United Nations Liberals had finally come for him.
