Which car to get?

Well Im almost 17 and Ive been working 40 hour weeks for the last few years and Ive finally managed to save up enough money to get a car. Right now Im looking at the 3.5 altima with leather, but I saw the maxima was practically the same price. What other cars should I look at? (I like Honda, Acura, Nissan, the German group..etc). Price range is around 25

you're 17 and can afford a 25k car? wow i'm impressed... have you kept in mind that you'll have to pay insurance and and car payments too? Are you going to keep working while your in college? I'm impressed, i'm 21 and have a decent job, but with paying for college i can barely afford to keep my 13k 1 year old nissan sentra

Ill be able to afford the insurance, but Im paying cash for the car so no payments. I dont like the WRX at all. And whatever car it is, must have a leather option 🙂

truthfully if you want something that sets you apart and is a sweet car get a classic. Check out e-bay, there were a few late 60s camaros for sale. For less then 15 grand you get something that stands out and smokes any car you can afford otherwise. You'd be able to save some for insurance too.

Hmmm....new car at 17. lucky kid. Are you sure you want to spend so much? $25,000 for a first car (and/or very young driver) is more than alot.

After working my ass off for the past few years and not spending a dime....I just cant take it anymore, the money must be set free.

get a used car. beleive me, as soon as you move out of your parents house, you'll wish you had the extra $10k you would have saved by buying used.

Anyway, if you like Hondas, get a Prelude.

I know how you feel, but why did you work so much at such a young age?

Altima V6. Just so that you know (I know you said you can pay insurance though), a 17 year old with a car like the V6 Altima, WRX, etc. is going to cost several thousand a year for primary driver (which you will be since the car will be in your name). I'd guess that you'll be paying $3-4k/year.

EDIT: I suppose that there is almost no point in mentioning it but if you invest $25k that will basically cover your retirement right there and you'll almost never have to worry about it again. Compound interest is your friend, and at 17 with that sum of cash it will work out to $1-2 million by the time you retire. If you threw in a few k/year while a working man then that would top it off (taking into account inflation).

I can get a bunch of discounts to help out to. Good student, Driver Pledge, Course Training, Alarm...etc, plus itll be on my parents policy. Right now Im look at the Altima 3.5SE, the Maxima SE, and Accord V6. What are the main differences between them (I only want a manual too, so I dont even think the Accord comes that way), or any cars similar to that?

Gibson: As far as working at a young age, because I had lots of time. Plus right now Im getting 11 bucks an hour to sit on my ass all day and take an occasional verbal thrashing from customers, so its really good pay. I usually take home 2k a month after taxes.

Good man for not wanting an automatic! Forget the accord. It sucks. The v6 accord gets spanked by the maxima and the altima. Sure it might be nicer inside, and whatever else but what is going to keep you up at night is the fact that the altima and maxima are faster! Can you afford a new Maxima? Those are quite pricey... Oh and also accords are ugly IMO.

Altima: 240 HP
Maxima: 255 HP (also heavier)
Accord: 50 horsepower and a fugly old man's car

EDIT: On the pro for accord it will depreciate much slower. The quality of honda vs. nissan is arguable but they are more similar than different.

EDIT #2: You're right - Accord V6 does not come with a manual.

Buy yourself a used car. I bought a 1995 Eclipse GSX absolutely LOADED with every possible option, low miles, and mint condition in 1997 for half of the original sticker price. Looked perfect. Drove perfect. People thought it was new ... and I saved myself $12,000.

That's what I'd do. It's one of the best decisions I've made.

eww.. why spend that much as a 17 year old.. dizamn.. whats the point? unless your using yer car everyday for a long time.. it just aint worth it! jeebus.... get a used car.. even if its 2-3 years...

Few reasons I dont really want used.
1. Ive seen the ways my friends drive their cars...and they dont last long. So I dont really want to pay for somebodys chew toy to have it fall apart a month later.
2. They dont have the 02 altima used.

When I was 17, I bought a new 97 Eclipse for 18k, but I had a 4 yr loan.

I was in your position a month ago, looking for a new car. My 1st pick was Altima, then Maxima.
The Accords were weak at stock. I ended up buying a Supercharged GTP, loaded with all options at 25,xxx then I had a trade in

Leather, heads-up display, power moonroof, high polished rims, BOSE, heated seates like the Altimas and Maximas.
If you want all performce go for the maxima.

Hmmm....A used car can last as long as a new car, you just have to know how to take care of it.

dude, even if you buy a five 5,000 dollar cars.. they will last longer then a frickin 25,000 car.. if you buy smart... so thats a weak ass reason

Im not saying I cant take care of it, Im saying how do I know the person before me did. Right now Im driving an old Accord with about 200k miles (its a manual), and its still pretty good however I can tell the temperature outside by the different sounds the windshield makes. So I think its time for a new car.
