i don't think you know the different between gyro and kebab. there are also souvlaki and doner.

I always thought people took a gyro as souvlaki. I've been to Greece a few times and had real souvlaki. The sauce is awesome.

We have a few sandwich shops that serve gyros but I prefer to grill a leg of lamb and make my own.

Had a gyro at a local Greek Fest a couple weeks ago on Broadway. Pretty tasty, but it pales in comparison to the ones I ate at a local shop in Ios.

Juicy, succulent, dripping pork, crispy tomatoes and cucumbers, rich feta cheese, seasoned fries and thick creamy tsatziki (sp?) in a pita. God, my tastebuds just got a hard-on 😱.

havne't really had bad shawarma, doner kebab, gyro, whateve ryou wanna call it. Its all fucking good, but I do prefer shawarma over gryo. All gyros that I've experienced seem to come in pre shaped cuts...it isn't cut right off the big bulk cut of meat.
However, I actually prefer chicken over beef.

actually iono wtf a doner kabob exactly refer to. I remember people once called it the 'secular name' of shawarma, but I went WTF b/c what is so religious about the word shawarma...its just arabic lol

baller.

that shit's delicious.

same with shirazi salad if you ever decide to have a kabob (which is COMPLETELY different than a gyro).

1, kabobs (not kebabs) are a persian food, not greek. "shish kabob" literally means "six kabobs" in farsi. here is a kind of kabob dish. kabob isn't sliced off a spit... it's completely taken off a skewer and eaten with rice.

2, shirazi salad is very close to greek salad, but different. so delicious.

3, gyros are greek usually involving lamb, beef, or chicken sliced off a spit. no rice...

interesting...'shish' in arabic means like a stick's worth...as far as i know.

its like the measure word ? in chinese.

You have to try it, it's great.

The only places I know of are the stands at the state fair. And nothing has descriptions telling you what things are.

you live in new york, where the gyro was invented. what do you mean the only places are the stands at the state fair?

best gyro place in town is niko nikos, though i usually get the chicken kebob (which is really a chicken souvlaki)

i make those all the time at home. one time i made one and my mom came by and asked, 'where's the lettuce.' it was a big face palm moment

i think i've heard that in turkish, "shish" means "skewered"... but it's really "shish" as in "six"... six pieces of meat.

if you want hasht kabob, which doesn't exist, but let's just say it does, that would yield eight pieces of meat.

I don't know any restaurants that serve these around me (unless I go into Manhattan). Some of the diners around here probably have them, but I would never order them.

The best gyro I ever had was in Brussels at a place call Plaka. The food at that place was some of the best I've ever eaten.
