1. Farmer's market for Prime or local butchers
2. Costco 90% of the time
3. Any other supermarket if I'm desperate.

FAIL FAIL FAIL

Do explain. Don't like the butcher @ Farmer's Market (grove)?

Waiting for the steak snobs to come rush in tell you to find a butcher shop...

I've always thought the butcher shop was way too overrated. How do you think the supermarkets cut their meat?

This is what I did:
1. Go to nearest Stop & Shop
2. Go to the meat section and press the buzzer that summons the butcher
3. You can have your cut in any way you'd like. I normally ask for a super thick size of prime-grade ribeye at 1.5-2" inches of thickness
4. Bring steak to room temperature
5. Rub canola oil on it for both sides, salt & pepper lightly.
6. In a heat-retaining cast iron pan that's been broiling (500F) in the oven, sear the meat on both sides.
7. Perfect motherfucking steak you'll ever have in your life. Serve with baked potatoe with wine or beer.

Maybe you can look up "quality" in the dictionary. The only mainstream supermarkets that I know sell prime is Whole Foods and I imagine Gelson's.

I must've been deaf & blind when the butcher in Stop & Shop said, "prime grade? good chioce, brb" then packaged me one that read 'prime grade ribeye'.

I am not familiar with stop & shop so I cannot comment. If you didn't pay 18 bucks or so a pound though I'm gonna go ahead and say you're full of shit. If you did, then disregard that comment.

if you don't know what Stop & Shop is then maybe u should listen to your own advice and stfu. ;)

Nice job recommending a new england grocery store to someone living in washington.

Does Dan Quayle come to your house for dinner too?

Haha, haven't seen a Quayle joke in years.

Nino Salvaggio has the best steaks I've ever bought, and their sale prices are cheaper than meijer. I wouldn't buy it full price though...

I just remembered that there's a butcher shop not too far by, actually. Never been in though.

What's a decent price/lb for Ribeye?

i get steak at a store that has it often for 6.99 and it looks/taste very good, though most often you'll find it at 8.99 to 11.99 for USDA Select/Choice at Safeway type of grocery store.

USDA Prime rated are ~20$/lb

You really need to judge each steak itself though

we have Sam's and Costco memberships, but Sams is just down the street...

3 pack of good sized ribeyes is around $25...we tried some tom thumb (Safeway) ribeyes that were on sale for $2.99/lb (reg $14/lb) but they were nowhere near as flavorful (USDA premium choice while the Sam's ones are USDA prime IIRC)...

In the Metro Detroit area I have found the best place to go for meat that is of highest quality and best price is an otherwise rather "dumpy" local grocery store. Their meat/butcher department is top notch, very clean and extremely cheap. I would like to find a good butcher in my area, but the place I go is close to home and always has a large selection.

Edit... oh yeah, Costco too! :)

My wife has started going to Nino Salvaggio for meat. Where do you normally go?

Hollywood Market. If you are near Rochester Hills, it's the one on Auburn and Dequindre.

Nino Salvaggios, insanity. So she leaves with a sack of money and comes home with 2 ribeyes, huh? ;)
That's pretty much how all of her excursions turn out. We're less than a mile from Hollywood (we run there instead of making the trip to Meijer sometimes) so I'll have to give their meat a try.

The butchers there will do pretty much anything you want, too. Plus, that is the only place in the area that I can find pork shoulders for pulled pork. I just wish they kept the store in a little better shape. :p

Don't have a Sam's Club near you? They have bone-in cryovac packs of pig butt available at most of them. It's usually 2 to a pack.

The nearest one is probably 10 miles away, but I am a Costco member, boo to Sams Club.

You can get a Lodge pan from amazon, I would try to get it from a physical store. Amazon is pretty bad about shipping these (literally looks like they just toss it in a box), though it is not too bad since they can take serious abuse.

I don't forsee a cast iron pan being damaged in shipping.
