Maybe you can look up "quality" in the dictionary. The only mainstream supermarkets that I know sell prime is Whole Foods and I imagine Gelson's.

I must've been deaf & blind when the butcher in Stop & Shop said, "prime grade? good chioce, brb" then packaged me one that read 'prime grade ribeye'.

I am not familiar with stop & shop so I cannot comment. If you didn't pay 18 bucks or so a pound though I'm gonna go ahead and say you're full of shit. If you did, then disregard that comment.

if you don't know what Stop & Shop is then maybe u should listen to your own advice and stfu. ;)

I buy bulk. I went in for a 1/4 cow with some coworkers. It got dropped off at the butcher last week. Should be ready for pickup this weekend.

There are no stop & shops in SoCal so it really doesn't matter to me :)

costco most of the time for any beef cuts.

eventually ill start ordering grass-fed beef when i make more $$$ but for now costco has some good quality stuff at good prices.

We're limited around here. We have Fresh Market and a few local organic grocery stores that get fresh beef from the midwest.

Walmart's meat is terrible and so is our largest grocery chain here. Steaks are thin and often poorly cut. I've actually been buying more meat from Food Lion lately...the prices have been pretty good and the cuts are thicker and have had some pretty decent marbling.

I think the key is to find a butcher that knows what he's doing and find a grocery store that has trouble selling out of what they cut, on average. (better prices)

How much is that going to cost you? I have been considering going this route when I get myself a really large freezer.

I don't know the final damage yet. I think it was around $120 for th processing and another $350 for the meat itself.

I'll get something like:
40 (one) pound bundles of burger
20 pounds worth of premade burger patties
4 ribeyes
4 tbones
4 sirloin
20 or so tenderized round steak (great for fajitas and stir fry)
6 roasts around 3 pounds each

It's all prepackaged and freezer wrapped from the butcher. I'm just finishing up last years cow that we picked in August and it's still in great shape after being in the freezer part of a regular fridge for 10 months.

I go to Harris Teeter usually. They sell Choice and Select. If you look hard enough, you'll find something really well marbled. The flavor's always good. Back when I was in NJ, we'd get it from the butcher who my family's been buying from since my grandparents. At one point they were delivering it to NJ from the city for us. Haven't had any meat like that since moving out, except when I go home to visit :)

Ribeye, 275 deg oven, for about 35 mins, just shy of med rare. Then a blazing hot pan for a quick sear on both sides. Best indoor method I've come across so far.

That's pretty much how all of her excursions turn out. We're less than a mile from Hollywood (we run there instead of making the trip to Meijer sometimes) so I'll have to give their meat a try.

i like to get local cuts at world foods or a small mom and pop called jims, and veggies at the farmers markets or our big chain, econofoods.

yeap IF the local stores have a "butcher" shop. out of the 6 stores aroune me only ONE has a butcher shop. the prices are nto any better then the real meat market i go to.

ok there are two. we have a Jewel and another. when they have a sale its FAR cheaper and the meat is almost as good as the butcher i go to.



edit: also within 5 miles i have 2 ranches that supply local butchers. every now and then they will fresh cut box's for you to get.

last time i got 4 porterhous's for like $50

You lucky SOB. I LOVE Nino's. One of my good friends and I (who live in NE Ohio) absolutely LOVE that store, and when she goes to visit her bf on the NE side of Detroit she stops by. They have beautiful produce, and great cuts of meat. Good wine selection as well.

Not your part of town, but If buying steak it's Ray's Prime Meats across from the Southland Mall on Eureka.

yea, that is a bit of a ways away, however, if I am ever on that side of town, I will remember that! :)
I use to live by Hollywood Market on Campbell in RO. Now they had good meat.
