I worked for a bank for almost two decades. It was a locally owned and operated former S&L that has thrived since the early 1950's. It is still around and I get together with former coworkers on occassion for birthdays and such.

However I no longer maintain an account at my former employer do to lack of access and have paired down to two major financial institutions - Chase (the Evil Empire) and Wells Fargo (Old Trusty).

Where do you bank?

edit: Yes, I wish I had at least put Bank of America. There are only 10 poll options and the first that came to mind are the ones with a major presence in DFW. Sorry. Maybe the "nice mod" can edit the poll for us?

edit 2: allisolm to the rescue! thanks! :)

BBVA Compass, and I hate them. They are always trying to steal my money, and just made a $400 cash deposit disappear (had to bitch yesterday to get it corrected).

Bank of America, Redstone Federal Credit Union, Branch Bank & Trust (BB&T), home loan through Chase Home Finance. My wife also has an account for her Girl Scout troop with Wells Fargo.

Not sure why people would want to do business with those huge banks. In general its just terrible customer service and they'll try to screw you over as much as possible if they can.

I've done my banking for the last few years at our local credit union. So much nicer. The tellers are nice and helpful, its all paperless (I can walk in and out and have my business done in less than a minute in most cases). Oh, and I can do my banking nationwide at just about any credit union.

The only possible advantage of those mega banks is ATM placement. But I don't remember the last time I've used an ATM, if I need cash I just get cash back from a store when I use my debit card.

The only reason we are with BBVA Compass is because they bought out the local bank - Guaranty Bank - that we used for years. We were happy with Guaranty Bank. I do plan on moving to a CU soon, and yes, ATM and branch locations are a factor.

What a ridiculous poll.
Bank of America(the biggest bank in the US) isn't even on the list and doesn't have it's own spot.

Compass bank? Sovereign bank? Comerica? WTF?
PNC Bank, US Bank, SunTrust Bank, and Region's Bank are bigger than all those and are all in the "top 10" in deposit market share.

Local, I actually work there as well. Locals have a pretty strong presence here, but it isn't very urban either. We have an M&T and a Sovereign but as I recall their market shares here aren't that impressive.

USAA, I do everything online. For my auto loan I had to fax some stuff. Never even seen one of their branches, as theres only one I think and its in san antonio. Could not be happier.

Though in the next 5-10 years when I hope to buy a house it'll probably be through a local credit union. Hard to say
