You're welcome mate, It was the least I could do given the wealth of information I have gleaned from this thread and I am very happy that nearly everyone here has achieved a satisfactory outcome, for those that haven't, be sure to chase GB up and negotiate a resolution that suits your situation ie: 790i or refund if the x48 is not suitable. Well done to all those who fought so hard to get where we are today.

My 680SLI-DQ6 left on Saturday bound for Gigabyte. As others have said, thank you Leo, Chuck, and Colin for getting us taken care of. It has been a bumpy road over the last year, but this has gone a long way to smooth things out.

I was just contacted from Chuck as well, and sent him the info he requested, my ball is rolling. I did request an advanced replacement with the offer of a contingency fee, I use this rig for my business as well as my entertainment, losing it for a couple weeks is a tough loss, hopefully something can be worked out...

Look at all the positive comments in the last page or two, I wish a lot of huge companies would look at this thread and see what something as simple as standing behind your products can do, it goes from hatred to joy in a matter of moments. I'm sure Gigabyte made money on the N680i even with all the returns, or at worst broke even.

I've always used Gigabyte, and will probably continue to do so because they stood up and did what was right (it did take some muscle though). Although I don't feel the X48 is an exact match (I can't wait around for the next nVidia chipset) it will be a big improvement over this unfortunate disaster.

Who to thank for the muscle??? EVERYONE....without public outcry this would have never been possible...thanks to all!

Morning everyone....

"Your item was delivered at 11:29 AM on April 28, 2008 in LA PUENTE, CA 91747. The item was signed for by W TANDRA. "

Well Gb has my board, hopefully I'll be hearing from Chuck or Leo soon, would be terrific (esp. for my work) if they get my new board back to me by Fri (if they shipped today via 3day UPS) I'd have just 1 week of downtime, and I can live with that, I won't lose too much time from my work.

Here's hoping!

Well.. Chuck contacted me yesterday afternoon to let me know my X48-DQ6 would be shipped out 3 Day, so I inquired as to whether I could foot the bill for an upgrade to 2 day to be able to get my board on Friday. He immediately repsonded for a nominal fee they could and would do that.

Very pleased to say that my board should be delivered tomorrow afternoon and I can get back to work, thanks to Chuck for his keeping on top of this and Colin for getting this all going and for Gb for standing behind their products (after some prodding, but hey, no one is perfect).

For the past few days I've testing Realtek's latest audio drivers (ver R1.91) and so far everything is working fine. The drivers support both the 888 (GA-N680SLI-DQ6) and 889 (GA-X38/X48-DQ6) audio codecs and follow the Windows Driver Model. The new drivers are available for all popular OSs and according to the Readme file the R1.91 offers WHQL Support for ATI HDMI Devices and also fixes the DTM 1.2 KS topology test fail issue whatever that means.

Have in mind that GB hasn't released any new drivers based on the R1.91 for any of the aforementioned boards yet. That's probably because GB has not finished evaluating the new drivers and this in turn means that the R1.91 may not function 100% correctly. In other words use at your own risk.

Personally I'm very content with Realtek's latest as the drivers performed excellent throughout my tests and caused me no problems whatsoever. This along with my previous experience with the R1.88 (I've been using them since mid March) makes me believe that the R1.91 will have no problem working at least with the GA-N680SLI-DQ6. So, I'm keeping it.

If any of you X48 owners feel adventures enough as to test this please share with us. It would be interesting to know if the R1.91 works flawlessly straight out of Realtek's lab.

Blazer7, What is the latest on you possibly getting the 790 board? You have not posted in some time now. Is gigabyte telling you guys yes you can have it when the board is available but keep it top secret? Just wondering. Thanks

Hello Mr dlbetz,

No I haven't posted in a while but that's because there are other things in life besides AT. :) (although I did posted on some other threads. lol)

As for the 790 there are no latest news nor there is anything that can be described as top secret about it. As Colin mentioned in one of his posts on page 115, ?Officially, the 790 is not an option since the board is still in development and won't be available for several months yet.?

As you understand the key word here is ?Officially? and there is that ?several months yet? thing. I believe that it's obvious that me and some of the guys here are playing on the fact that we already have multiple VGA setups and that renders an exchange with the X48 pretty much useless, at least for us. However, as the 790 is not out yet there is nothing to report on this.

Based on the fact that so far GB has given all 680 users top priority and seen that you guys have been treated fairly well with the X48 replacement I believe that GB will eventually do right for the rest of us too, and thanks to Colin we do have an open channel to communicate with GB RMA services. That said, I believe that by the time the 790 hits the shelves we will have something new to talk about in this thread. Whether this will be a 790 replacement or the cost of it or anything else I don't know. We'll just have to wait and see.

I don't know whether this is a satisfactory answer to your question but so far this is how things are.

Blazer7, Your answer was great. I wasn't trying to step on any toes just curious if they have told all of you that have sli that they will be willing to work with you when the new board comes out. I was just feeling happy for all of us on how gigabyte is treating us now and was hoping they worked out a future plan with you guys with sli. I will quit asking. I should have my 48dq6 by the time I get home and will be a happy camper again. Sorry if I was getting on your nerves. Thanks for all your help and great posts.

When I asked about the 790 they told me they have no idea on the eta of the board, but if that is what I wanted then they would email the people responsible for that decision and would let me know the outcome. I went with the x48 instead though. They were absolutely wonderful to deal with. The best customer service I have had from a board manufacturer yet.

Just want to say thanks to all of y'all that helped in getting this issue taken care of. If not for all of you I would still be pulling my hair out over some silly issues with this board.

Hello Mr dlbetz,

Thank you for your concern, and no, you haven't stepped on any toes and you are not getting on my nerves. :) In fact we are cool as always.

I'm also very happy that most of you guys are out of the woods and well with your new X48 mobos. As Mr SgtHartman described there is no fixed date for the release of the 790 yet so the few of us with SLI will have to wait. I have no doubt that the guys at GB will try their best to work something out for us too.

Mr SgtHartman,

Welcome aboard. It's very nice to know that our efforts are appreciated so much that people will still join the forums even now at the eleventh hour just to post here and let us know. I hope that we will see you in the X48 thread.

Speaking of it, and taking into account that many of the guys here will be joining the X48 thread, the outcome there is pretty much guaranteed. I don't know if TheBeagle had planned it all along but there is no doubt in my mind that the X48 thread will live up to the greatness that this thread has achieved.

Best regards to all

Blazer

PS
If anyone tests the R1.91 please let us know.

Hi

I've got 1.91 on the replacement x48 dq6 with not problems so far.
No serious testing, just listening to a couple of CD's.

Hello guys,

It's nice to get some feedback on this. I've conducted all my tests under XP. Mr dghillier are you using XP also ? It would be interesting if some people with Vista32 & Vista64 could take a look at this and give us their feedback.

Posting for what should be the last time in this old thread... My 680i SLI board is gone, and my new X48-DQ6 is up and running....

Farewell friends, and see you in the X48 thread!

Good luck to those of you that chose to stick with this board, I fully believe Colin, Chuck, and Leo will take good care of you should you need to call upon their assistance.

Good Afternoon Everyone.

It sounds like peace may have returned to the valley. That's very encouraging. Of course, it took a bit of persistent advocacy to reach this point, but I believe the struggle was well worth it. I also see an additional benefit accruing to the members, namely, a new and quite effective direct link to the folks at Gigabyte has been established. Aside from Mr. Gary's faithful efforts on our behalf, we never had that DIRECT access before, i.e. Mr. Colin and his clan. I also believe that Gigabyte has likewise benefited from this whole experience as well, and will restructure some customer support resources to ensure that situations like the one that occurred with the failed N680i board don't ever again become a Firestorm. That looks like a WIN-WIN to me!

Therefore, going forward, especially with the X48 board, we can deal directly with Mr. Colin & Co., rather than having to consistently burden Mr. Gary to act as our intermediary. So far, I see a marked improvement in the general tone and effectiveness of the direct dialog with Gigabyte, through Mr. Colin. Let us all hope that continues indefinitely into the future.

I am still wrestling with the Teaming feature on the X38/48 boards, and it continues to be a work in progress. For those of you that have migrated to the X48 Thread, Welcome Aboard! For those staying behind for a while on this Thread, I'll be checking back periodically, just to see how you all are doing.

Best regards to everyone. Have a great weekend. TheBeagle :D

Hello all,

So far we know that Realtek's R1.91 drivers are working pretty good with both the 680 & the X48 under XP and Mr Beagle is testing them on his X48 under Vista64.

As I have mentioned in the X48 thread I have a hunch that GB follows Realtek's guidelines to the letter when it comes to implementing their audio codecs to their boards, or, their implementation of the codecs is done in a pretty much standard way. I also think that GB follows the same ?audio design? in many of their boards and if that's the case then these are good news for all of us GB owners.

GB like all companies will eventually drop support for a discontinued board after some time. This is what happened or will happen soon with our board, and this is what will eventually happen with all other boards out there.

Most of us plan on keeping our boards for much longer after they have been EOL'd by the manufacturer, GB in this case, and it will be good to know whether we can count on Realtek for future driver updates even if this is just for the audio.

If any of the remaining 680 owners can test the R1.91 under Vista32/64 please post your results.

Well, they have had my board since Friday. I suspect it will take at least another 2-3 days for them to verify everything and send out my replacement.
